Need suggestions for prizes

Postby mikeschn » Thu Aug 26, 2004 3:34 pm

Hey guys,

It's hard for me to decide what makes a good prize to give away for these contests. Naturally I can't give away mattress warmers every time, it's not in the budget.

But if you guys can come up with some ideas for future contests, what you'd like to see as prizes... maybe we can work some stuff out.

First I thought "windows". Everyone needs windows. That is, until you're done building, then you don't need windows any more.

Okay, so we want something everyone can use. Michelle said, down comforter. Yea, well, that's a girl thing. Guys don't care about down. Let's talk wood, and steel and that kind of stuff.

Alright, I'm drawing a blank. What's a good prize? Lights that you can hang off the galley? A charcoal starter? A lantern or a grill? A 12V TV? Give me some suggestions... please...

Mike...

P.S. If you come up with a really good suggestion I might swap out the closet lights for your suggestion.

How bout a swing away trailer jack?
I also saw couplers at Wal-Mart under $15.
The Ford tail lights?
Computer vent fan?
Full size plans?
Shrug's Plans CD?
A Camp Inn 550 Ultra?
A couple quarts of CPES?

Lots of stuff you can give as prizes that won't break the bank. Oh yeah except for the Camp Inn.

Lots of good ideas there... I'd have to talk to Cary about the Camp-Inn, see if he would give me a $9950.00 discount. I doubt it.

All those ideas are great for folks that are getting ready to build. How about the folks that are done? What would be good for them?

Would donations from some of our "surplus", or other skills, be acceptable?

Mike,
Does there really have to be a "prize" at all?
Just knowing that your plan is considered the best and will help lots of future teardrop builders?

Or, another thought, something very simple and low cost...maybe someone here that works with wood could make up some small neat plaques issued to winners of different events/contests.

That's true of course Bev... it's not the size of the prize but the thought that matters...

Well I will be sending you a couple of my CDs in a week or so. Still not sure if I can sell them, but no harm in giving them away.

p.s. If you have opinions as to the legality of my disc or object in some way, please send your complaints to [email protected]

well, one thing everybody might like

Postby Laredo » Thu Aug 26, 2004 10:02 pm

whether they're finished building or not might be, not a tchtotchke exactly, but something cool for in the teardrop ... a thing like Beverly's breadbox only something that would work no matter the style or size of your tear.

So I would vote for, you know, something cool that goes with camping but might not really be a tear "part". I would suggest possibly something like a teardrop-theme coffee mug, for example (you could get a stainless steel one and trace a printout of the winning design on it with one of those little electric engravers people put their DL numbers on bicycles with, for example ...)

Might I ask what's wrong with a "girl thing?" :-) Nothing quite like a down comforter on a cold night though.

Hardware? Let's see.

A dutch oven
A fluorescent galley light
Battery monitoring devices
A set of door latches
A length of hurricane hinge
A small set of drill bits

I like the idea that was already posted about a coffee cup. At Christmas time there are always places in the mall that will print pictures on coffee cups. We could have some of the designs or 3-D renderings printed on a cup along with the name of this list.

Just my .02 worth,

I just knew that the girly thing was going to get Mike into a lot of trouble. With all the ladies that have built tears in the last couple of years.

Mike I thought you were smarter than that.. LOL

You're right Joanne.

I remember reading an article in one of my computer magazines about getting things custom printed from the net. They put the author's picture on everything and filled the room with all of them. T-shirt, poster, lunchbox, teddy bear, mousepad, jigsaw puzzle, candybar, etc.

There are places on the net that will print pictures on prettymuch anything. A quick google found this place:

http://www102.iprint.com/cgi-shl/index.cgi?sID=2004082805/a2225171dc9dbd0c-2&level=2533

even found this place that does the candy bars:
