Stand Up TD Design

I have read about requests for a TD that allowed for a stand-up area which could be used for dressing, a port-a-poti, or even a shower.

I have played around with CAD program and I think I have it.

For now, I call my design the "Stand Up" TD



The woman in the pic is 5' 10" tall. Her head just touches the hatch She is standing in a foot well. The upper wall to her right folds up when the hatch is opened.



This upper wall folds down when the hatch is closed. The privy area, which could include a hand-washing sink, could be entered via a door at the foot of the bunk. This is the panel on her left.



The ends of this stand up section could be fitted with canvas gussets. Or plywood sections could be added to the outside of the hatch to cover this area, allowing enough clearance for the hatch to close with this plywood on the outside...



Well what do you think? Those who wanted an inside dressing area, or private space, tell me what you think. To adapt this for a shower brings another set of problems like plumbing, water proofing and hot watter supply, but I guess it could be adapted for even this use.

The only problem I can see is where is the axle located. Looks like it would have to go right in front of the drop which would put it about center and possibly have an interference problem with the fender and door.

Yeah I think the axel is a problem.... So it would probably have to be suspended with torsion axels.

I moved the foot well in from the sides more in these next pics and added a few details...

I like it! You could get around the axle clearance issue buy using tosion stub axles.

Not just the axle is a problem - that vase of flowers on the vanity unit looks to me like it's going to fall over when towing..........

What's the last quarter of the length used for? Is it empty?

The flower vase is epoxied to the countertop. I know it looks like it might fall over, but the super duper epoxy that I used there, which by the way dries clear as glass keeps it from falling over. I know its hard to see, but it really is there. The lady in the pic is the one who insisted the flower vase be there. It is sort of like the VW flower holder inside the Bug.

As for the last 1/4 of the TD, that is where the galley goes. Custom designed for each TD. Actually the first design is there, but I used invisible ink.

Dee, my REALLY BIG question is why a lady with no nose/eyes/etc. would need/want a flower vase...epoxied or not?????????????????

I think it is sort of a mystical thing.....but I am not sure... exactly,,,,sort of... well any how.. you know.

Or here is another version of the Stand Up TD.

This one has a table inside for two.



Drop the table top and you have a dressing area



This version offers a table with a view and easy pass-through access to the galley.



This version might be for you if you want to get ready for bed, but remain seated to read, etc. while your partner has gone to bed ahead of you.

a down side I see is that the galley has to be open to stand up. Rainy days could be a problem, or closing up the kitchen at night.

I agree.

But for those who want that inside private poti space, and who want the traditional galley in the great outdoors I think this is a combination that works.

Somewhere I have read that there are TD dreamers who had a spouse who just had to have that poti or they wouldn't go along. This seems to fit the bill.

For a totally enclosed TD, the Escape Hatch is a great design I think.
