Did you just design your very own teardrop or tiny trailer? Want to discuss it? Here's the place to post your design for discussion!

After a weekend of tent camping a weeks ago, I decided a tear would pay for itself rather quickly and allow me to get out more than being burdened to the motels allows me to. I came up with this:

The frame:

This is my finalized design. Goal is to be somewhat quick and lightweight to build. I estimate ~400lbs finished weight. As much as I want this to be a woody tear, it looks like I'll be doing myself a favor by painting it and finishing the inside nicely.

The frame is probably overkill, but the weight it adds is reassurance to me that it'll last on some of the rough country roads I plan to travel.

I'll be picking up my plywood and steel sometime next week. Hopefully making the first cuts next weekend.

*Unlike the 2 other tears I have attempted, this one will NOT be abandoned.*

I like that design. It's perfect for one person. I also like the way the storage area at the foot of the bed is accessable from either inside or out.

You mission, seeing as you've accepeted it, is to take lots of pictures... ;)

Mike...

P.S. Remember to always leave a window cranked open!

bg,

I'm glad to see that you are back to building again. I'm looking forward to following your build and seeing you at the gatherings. Any projections on a finish date?

Best Regards,
Ron

Hopefully by April at latest, but I want to be done before then, all depends on the $$ side of things.

My original intention was to keep under the 58" "slipstream" of my car.

I'd put one more spar on the front curve...

If I understand Andrew correctly, there is no aerodynamic reason for a tapered back over a square one.

The Boxter design comes to mind, even one with a somewhat slanted hatch. Sure would make the hatch a lot easier to build, and allow the cook to get closer to the galley.

Other than tradition, is there any reason why more of us don't build square backs?

I would sugest that you mock up the height with your bed. See if you can sit up in the given space. Remember you will loose interior dimentions because of ribs, interior ply, flooring, floor joists, etc.

You can do it, stay focused and don't feel overwhelmed. Why did you not finish the first two?
