Thanks for the heads up on that Forest.
Even after so many changes up to this point I'm still having second thoughts on the profile. It just looks awkward to me.
After I get off work today I'm going to attempt to come up with a profile that is similar to the cub or grumman that will still fit all the features I've lined up for the current design.
This particular tear has been standing out to us from day one.

Anybody know who makes these? Or what they are called?

Ha haha You missed step # 2, Good old # 2 gets them all the time.


Step 1 Convincing your other half you need to build one.


Step 2 Deciding on a different profile you like before it is to late.


Step 3 Finding a trailer frame of building one.

Ha! step one was a huge success. I'm building this as her graduation present.

Initially I didn't like most pre-designed profiles as I was afraid I couldn't pack them with features. for this reason I've been trying to design my own. But i just recently realized that I might actually be able to use one of the known designs.
I'm taking the profile of the chilli pepper from vacations in a can and stretching it a little.
All of this is on a tight schedule as I still want to start cutting wood tomorrow.

We were able to get 3 good days of work in this past weekend. but I'll start a build thread for that.
I updated the model to the new profile and checked my dimensions on the trailer and such.
This is what I ended up with:

Looking at that picture of the welded up trailer it doesn't look like you notched the spring hangers. You are definitely going to want to do that with the axle on top if you haven't. If you leave that channel at full height you have very little suspension travel before bottom out. I notched the full flange out of the channel down to the web over the axle.

I had wondered if it was necessary. How much do you think the suspension travels on these trailers?
