Progress before post - that's the order.

Did you just design your very own teardrop or tiny trailer? Want to discuss it? Here's the place to post your design for discussion!

That is one sweet looking teardrop! Makes me want to start my second! (I guess I'd better finish my first, first....)

Some slight progress...

Postby LesterS » Sat Aug 09, 2008 9:00 pm

I have managed to make a bit more progress despite my travelling. Compound that with the fact that when I'm home the temperatures have been in the upper 90's. (It makes for slow progress)

I have started skinning the outside.

The current state of the Nest'r...

Nest'r Update

Postby LesterS » Sun Aug 10, 2008 5:53 pm

I thought I'd post one more picture here before I start back to my travels again -- This fall I should be able to get back to work on it more.

Here's the Nest'r with the rolled side rocker panels finally skinned.
Image

To get the curve in the small pieces, I wet them down with water (both sides), then bungeed them around my front porch column until they dried. It gave them enough curve that I could get them glued on and nailed in place without much fuss.

Well, that's one side down!

That's looking real nice, as others have mentioned... the rockers are very slick.

Lester's Nest'r Update

Postby LesterS » Mon Jun 01, 2009 9:10 pm

Well, I didn't actually fall off the planet, just was bizzy, bizzy. But now, I'm back on teardrop time. (Or in this case TTT-Time).
I've finally got the whole carcass skinned. Sanding ALL the styrofoam insulation made for one helluva mess. But the end result for only being skinned inside and out with just 1/8" thick material, it's pretty solid.

I tested all the wiring again - making sure I hadn't driven a brad through a wire somewhere - and all is well. My el-cheapo ancient 3amp battery charger reads 5amps with all the interior lights and the Fantastic Vent running on high. I dunno how accurate this really is, since I get over 4.5amps when I tested all the running lights.

Now I have to build the door and order some finishing materials.

I have been toying with the idea of either CPES, or thinning some Epoxy myself. I wish there was an easier method, but since the whole thing is really nothing but cheap luan, it'll need some substantial sealing. I'll be be ordering something before the week's end, so I'm imposing a deadline on my decision.

Anyway, without further ado... the Pix:

And there's more in the Album of course! :D

:o :applause:   Very nice. Now the truth is cheap luan and expensive Birch needs the same waterproofing and I am sure you will do a great job.

:applause: Incredible!

My wife has already singled out your build as the one to emulate for build #2 assuming #1 ever gets done. (Your build is a roadrunner pace compared to my glacial pace.)

A bit more progress - just a bit.

Postby LesterS » Sun Jun 07, 2009 9:20 pm

The Nest'r progresses.

There is now a door!
Image
I made a frame all the way around the opening -- a door jam -- from regular 1 x 2's with a profile cut with my Harbor Freight router. (Gotta love those Harbor Freight tools!)
Image Image

Also, a few screws, some scrap lumber and leftover piece of 3/4 ply; no-so-instant router table!
Image
I'm running out of exterior work to do -- I have to get ready for the epoxy.

Lester-
Just a ‘public’ thanks for all the info- I picked up an HF trailer yesterday- 8” wheels but only $50  Time to start the NESTER MKII. I may want it to sleep four- seriously. Dean_A has a sideways bunk for his daughter that might work well-
Again thanks- You the man- :applause: I’m sure more questions will follow.
Roger
One more thought- what about storage? There is a lot of room under the seats- are there going to be cabinets under there- I could envision exterior access on some parts and interior storage at other parts. If I am going to copy your design  I need more progress and specifics!

HelooOOOooo- :o

Lester are you still out there? Any progress? Inquiring minds want to know. How can I steal ideas if you don’t post?
