SawTooth XL - Update 6.27.11 - Repairs started

waow

impressive workmanship on the metalwork and accuracy of the wood cuts, etc. I really like how you fitted & hung the doors ...

If you dont mind sharing; where are you budget wise? is it coming close to your original estimate ... Im guessing double? (new unique projects are always way over the original estimates) what about that added cost of new tools?

Budget wise I am about triple my very original estimate. Now that i have built one, I know how to budget for a build. I did buy some new tools but i am not including those in the build sheet for this one because they will get used again on other projects.


Got 2 coats of white on it and 2 coats of Rustoleum Bedliner on the bottom this weekend... I think 1 more coat of white should do it for now. The color will come later. Got the marker lights mounted and wired too...

3 coats of Rustoleum Marine topside paint are on, body is bolted down permanently, i got all my stuff back from powder coat, 2 coats of KILZ primer on the inside, roof vent is in, tail lights are wired, rear storage door is mounted, fenders are mounted....

Made some good progress the last few days... :)

I'm trying to get it sealed up by the weekend so Nicole and I can take our kids camping for the 4th. Lots left to do but I think its plausible... ;)

Damn my thread watch vaporized on me and I missed some monumental build updates. The SawTooth is looking great Jess!

Good luck on sealing it up for the 4th, although it looks like you are almost there now.

Thanks Mark... I'm glad i could help you out. I lost count how many times i went back and looked at your build pics so you helped me out too :thumbsup:

the powder coating actually makes the doors shut a little smoother just cuz its slick and the plunger on our style of handles appears to be diecast something... old hotwheels cars maybe? :R

The first trip is in the books :) Nicole and I thrashed thursday night until almost 1 am trying to get the trailer done and then started packing...

Headed up to Twin Springs ID for a 2 ish day camp trip with Nicole, her 2 kids and my son. The trailer worked great. the trip was about 125 miles total with probably 45 of that on washboard and potholed gravel roads.

It sure was nice sleeping in the trailer. Here are some pics from the weekend. It rained the first night pretty good and i had no leaks!!

I still have to get batteries, mount lights, do some wiring, finish painting the inside, do the formica countertop, add stickers, buy a better mattress, build an inside shelf/storage area.... the list goes on but they are never really done are they? :)
