Did you just design your very own teardrop or tiny trailer? Want to discuss it? Here's the place to post your design for discussion!

Box Kite Phase III begins

Postby Ron Dickey » Wed Sep 03, 2008 3:25 pm

after a wk or more on the road there is lots that you do not know about your trailer until you really sleep in it.

the Doors work well and will be replaced in time.

I was going to move a small dresser into the trailer but found it to heavy.
after about halfway on the trip Lucia said the clothing part should be on top.

This trailer has a hatch at the back but not curved like at TD but straight down and square.
I use two PCV pipes with alumimum conduit piipe inside that slides up and and has holes in it to put in a pin to make it higher and and hold up the hatch.
I had to edit after looking at sometime later and had know idea what I was saying sorry if you got confussed I will try and explane my projects better.

We have a camp inn thing here in San Luis Obispo at Lopez Lake this month and I would like to have some of my new parts done.

But My body will not let me between returning to work and needing to start the new projects I find after driving all that way and back my core is not ready to do this.

I am working on a slide show for a freind of his house near Soccoro and hop after that I can get my Trailer shots together and post them as to what I am doing and will be doing.

I can scan in drawings but find it much more simpler to just photograph them insead.

Who has a good site to set up a free web site with photo's.

I was driving around town and found that McCarthies a used car Dealer is selling the Little Guy. they say they have had a person a day look at them but no one buying. 6-8 k wide and nearrow models, Tear and flat fron, and one that will hold motorcycles on the front.
I told them about the Camp Inn and then I went and looked too I like the look of the 560 wich has a round front from left to right much like the little Airsteam that is used for motorcycles and camping. that would interest me in a future design.

With the Lopez lake sleep out coming this week and my trip to NM I had no real time to do the doors so they will stay the same for now.
I have however almost finished the overhead storage unit is almost done bottom cover and paint are next then after the even stain and cabinate doors. has two sides left and right and a small ledge at the rear for small things to be held when hatch is open.
I am also designing cloth wall pockets for shoes and small things like Glasses and flashlights.

Good question that I don't have an answer to. I use Picasa (free from Google) to catalog my photos, and PicasaWeb to display them to the world (see link in my signature below). I would like to build a website of my build when I am done, so Iam looking forward to an answer to your question.
God Bless

The new doors are almost completed, I plan to cover the front boot with blue color canvas ( commercial type pre water proffed). The doors should be done this wk.
I will also be seeking a welder to reinforce my other side of my axle the last brock on NM trip. Then I can consider wash board roads.
I will also need doors for my cupboard.
seems there is always something.
Will do my best to up load pix of doors when done. Popular wood inside lupen inside, and 1/2 outside oak ply. Very heavy.

T&TTT is a good site that hosts your photos for free. Read more about it here...

Working with Steve B. has been a pleasure. He offers very good ideas and my doors are almost done.

Doors are painted the locks will be attached in the morning, The trailer sits at Steve's and we fit them in the door ways do it should be mostly reattacing the hinges and figuring where the locks will strike.

Now that he know more about doors his will go on even faster now that he know what to expect.

We temperary put on his sides so he could see that they do fit and what he needed to do before they go on perminent. I really hope he can come up to the dam Run with me.

My boss oked my vacation time and I am about to send in my Dam Gathering form. I kinda wish I could bring my wife up there now she has never seen falling snow!!

Next step after the doors are pix's got to work on them and get the new views of the Box Kite seen.

finally as Dam gathering comes closer I have new doors and windows on the trailer.

My next move is a Chuck box to build that I found on the net

I can open it in the back of the trailer or remove it and set it on a table or with it's on legs. If I want to keep the food away from the trailer.

In so getting ready for the Dam Run I have installed a much over due ceiling W/ insolation, put inside corner pieces that hide the like between the side wall and ceiling wall corners like a face plate would.

I am going to cover the front tung box cover with water proof cloth that will match the color. The weather got to it and it began to splinter and swell. I sanded it and filled the holes with body puddy and wood puddy. when it feels smooth I will put down the cloth with a spay adhisive and cover the edges with vaneer strips.

As I said pix will come in May after the Shasta Run, Wed anv, and Jury duty in that order. Just as I thought I would have time. well I wrote it down so now I will have to follow through

Good news
After the Dam Gathering I found that my trailer is water proof outside and in. In meaning at the Gathering it rained 6 inches. The water did not get in however we had to wrap the stuff that was outside into the trailer did not use truck and it got totally wet inside. When we got home it took a week for it all to dryout in the garage.

I stopped work on everything but I have been helping Steve B. in San Luis Obisp, CA work on his and we got one side up and today we should get the other side up.

One computer has the software I need to post new pix the other computer has the pix's I have Lightroom in the computer with the pix's but have not figured how to reduce them in it. I have Photo Shop elements in the other computer maybe I will get an updated Photo shop elements for the other computer, I want Photoshop but elements is cheeper. Elements and Lightroom should work well together too.

In the Rain the tung box did fill with water so I am working on a gutter design to make the water devert away from the box plus putting a better seal on the box.

Up Date.
The Camp box has become several small units that will join for cooking.

The awaning is still in the works but was used at Shasta and I ralized what improvements were needed.

The tung box filled with water at Shasta. I drilled a hole in the bottom so it will drain and covered it with screening so insects will not come in.

I kept wanting to move the tire to the rear. One gentelman offered a tire that became a table and I think I can do it in wood and hinges.

I now have a bumper on the rear and will be adding a second layer that will hinge out and away from the hatch so the hatch can open.

I am working on pictures but will have to go to a freind who does not have dial up I have many many pixs to add.

I have sence added a bumper in the rear it was put there because I will have a swing away spare tire and swing up table, changing the weight ratio and giving us more work space when camping.

As you can see the bumper also protects the lights when I back up.

Image
this offers the direction I was going.... many have spare tires that turn up to become a table. I wanted something more a square table over the spare.

A cable will be attached to the sides of the trailer and through the tire so if it were to fall off it will not bouce and hit the car behind.

refer to this site for the rest of the story.
