Ok, I think I have my design.

Did you just design your very own teardrop or tiny trailer? Want to discuss it? Here's the place to post your design for discussion!

I think you guys need to think pop ups like the VWs have. Tons of headroom. Lot easier than removing wheels.

Believe me, I thought about that. I have been working with a pop up cab over camper. Could be fun.

BTW nice vw and camp trailer.

So what would be nice is if there was also a feature that raised and lowered it once the wheels were off… maybe an air bag, scissor jack etc. Tear drops don’t weigh too much and you’d only be going from the driveway to the garage, so getting it up and down is a bigger problem than just rolling it. How about kind of a narrow piano dolly on either side that attached to the hub and then had some kind of scissor or lever that allowed the trailer to be lowered/raised so that the ‘jack’ is already built into the roller?

Of course having the trailer biased toward the low slung look would help – say 8 inches of clearance? I think you’d have to be careful then what you drove over then.

Of course another exotic option would be the whole Latino hydraulics route (and you could even enter it into a jumping contest!! :lol )

I like it. I'll have to look around and see what is available.

I can't seem to find the low profile model. Can you point me to it?

Well I monkeyed around and seem to like the top view of my plan the way it is now.

wow, I was looking at the plan and noticed that I could put a tv in the storage area and enjoy a good movie or something while on the throne. Cha Cha Cha.....life is good.

NightCap;

Did you ever do anything with this design? I love the layout. The only thing I would change is turning the table to go down the centerline with a split bench to make getitng in and out of the dinette easier.

I too used the VW Westfalia as my inspiration. The popup allows me to store the trailer in a standard garage and when I need the open top for standing headroom or for ventilation, it's a simple matter to push the button that runs the linear actuator. Popups of this sort are much simpler to construct and use than many of the other designs you might see on these pages.

Yup...that's what I was thinking of.

Mike...I'm having to deal with a lower garage door opening, might end up with having to lower the pressure on the tires to get it in and out, or build it on a jig with casters, I can modify the boat cradle to do it. I'll probably have to bag the idea of a Fantastic fan as I won't have clearance for it and don't want to lose any height in the overall build. Looking for a side type vent/ fan maybe, and also, I'm like 6'2" so it will more than likely be a "stoopy" for me. Gotta have a dropped floor for sure. Just need to tweek the profile to get what I want. I'm totally ignorant on any of the design programs so do it all in pencil cad. Get the profile I want, then figure the rest out as I go. I'm thinking....lots of windows, and need to locate the correct vintage gas stove to go with a late 30's type thing. Doug

Yes, the Fantastic fan is a real problem. It's just needlessly tall which precludes adding it to a TTT that will fit thru a normal 82" high garage door. I solved the problem with a hinged pop-top. An added benefit was having light and air when popped up a bit so a fan has never been needed or missed. I put a fixed window in the ceiling, but frankly I've never bothered to remove the interior cover I made for it to reduce the bright sunlight from above.
