CRITIQUE NEEDED OF PROFILE DESIGN FOR OUR 4X10 TD

Postby DMcCam » Thu Jan 14, 2010 3:04 pm

Howdy Fellow Members, As a noobie here, I'd really like your feedback about my TD design for a 4'x10' profile! I've been reading a lot of posts and I think I have most of the bases covered, but gee, there's so much to learn!

Cheers, Dave

P.S. The silhouettes are clip-art and don't bare any resemblance to me or my wife...OK, pretty close to our terrier though.

I'm no expert but I like it! My only suggestion would be to leave the tight radius on the end of the hatch attached to the body. Use that open area for storage.

Here's my critique: It should read Dave's and Lisa's Teardrop Profile (both names need to be possessive). :D

Other than that, it looks good. Nice shape. Good proportions. I like it!

Question? Why 4 X10 and not 5 X 10? It seems that if one is going to go long, why not wide, too? Just curious.

Casey; 4 foot tall; he made no mention of width

I knew that -- I was just testing everyone else. ;)

That's a very tight curve right at the bottom of the galley hatch - you might want to test if you can bend your choice of roof skin material round that small a radius.

I see one problem, You are probably not gonna build it for me.

Nice Shape, Love it! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Life sometimes throws you a curve ball, be flexible and courageous enough to still knock it out of the park.

It looks great to me :applause:

Like others have mentioned, that curve at the rear may be problematic. But some have made it work so do what you want.

Thanks guys, I'm planning on using two layers of 1/8" birch ply for the roof and one layer on the inside of the hatch, will that bend OK? I can modify the curve if it needs it yet, I do like the sleek look of her...

I have a very small area to store my TD so width is a real issue. If I make a custom trailer, I might be able to squeeze a 4.5' width but 5 could be too wide. We'll see.

Oh, and I might as well admit, I'm good with pictures but, even after all these years, English and I are still barely on speaking terms. :shhh:

You might have to do some relief cuts in the ply, or cut into strips when applying.

The curve in the back also takes off a bit less than a foot of usable length from your trailer as well. It is an awesome stylistic touch, though.

Or use an upswept design like the T@B and not worry about tight radii

Is this sort of like the up-sweep that you mentioned Ageless? The curve still looks pretty good to me even though it's not as extreme...yes?

Hey, Dave, you are right it does look a lot like ours! When you come see it, you can really tell.

Caseydog--How do ya know his name is not DAVE&LISA. There for the single possessive would be correct! I have cousins named Kris and Gary. A little friend of theirs heard their names together so much, she thought that was her name. Thus "'Krisandgary, will you play jacks with me now?" Yup the Jacks referrece dates me, but too bad.
