Long Widget

Postby wlivesey » Sun Jan 31, 2010 8:10 pm

Introducing the Long Widget. I took the Widget profile and stretched it to allow a queen bed/dinette, full shower/bath, galley, AC and a drop floor for plenty of headroom AND garageable. The design isn't complete, but I'd like to get some feedback. Let me know what you think...

Bill,

I like it! Are you planning a follow-up to your build?

(BTW, this is similar to what I had in mind for #2. Please don't tell my wife.)

Thanks Tom. I've always liked the look of the Widget but wanted something bigger. As for a 2nd build - no comment.

Bill,
Do you have the dimensions on this guy? I really like the look. Thinking about making something bigger.

I like it. But then, it reminds me of the Giant Teardrop, aka The Generic ET.

Here are some exterior dimensions for you. It should allow about 6'0 of interior height. Plenty for me... I'll put some polish on the design and post some updates for those that are interested.

It does have a number of similarities... I really like the corner bath design. It really makes the most of the curved front and gives lots of elbow room.

Bill,

Sweet little canned ham design!

P.S. Why not an even 12 feet in length? A little more room up front inside would feel less cramped.
My goal...

the Long Widget is exactly what I am looking for - for my Mobile Surf Shack design. It is about one foot longer than the LW -7'6" high and 7' 6" wide. I was looking for small trailer design that had a washroom (my daughter has a phobia of spiders and will not use campground washroom)
Any more info on this model would be greatly appreciated.

I'm still working on the design here and there. I'm currently trying improve the frame drop floor design.

Let me know if you have any ideas or features you would like me to include.

Well Bill – it looks like we’ll be doing something else together – I was holding on to a super secrete design and came up with this:

Bill

Here are some of my ideas for the Mss interior. I made it a little taller to provide storage in the ceiling ( it will give the trailer more lateral strength as well). I like the idea of the folding bar stools - I can make the front cabinet taller to have more storage and it will eliminate the need for a dinette table. The bathroom looks positively spacious which makes me feel like I am doing something wrong (maybe I worry to much). I was thinking of a waterproof, fold up cabinet style cover for the cassette toilet - when showering you would fold down the cover to provide a sitting platform - have a drain in the center of bathroom - place a large plastic storage box under it outside to collect the water ( eliminate the need for a gray water tank). I am also working out an idea of having a pull out drawer at the back to store out door stuff like cooking equipment - cooler - folding chairs, etc.
I would like to hear your thoughts - especially on plumbing ideas.

Been there done that with the Ladybug - really I just want something that I can pull up to the campground and be done with set up - no hatch to lift - etc. ;)
