Standin´pop-up teardrop idea.

My ideas about caravaning has been asleep last years, but know the trailering car is near finished, and the camper plans are up.
Planned start to build a new teardrop, but wanted possibility for stand inside, even if wanted the tear to be as low as trailering car.....
Difficulty when i tried to make the overall look one of the main solution.....

Came up with this pop-up design, and found cardboard for a quick model...:

Not a beautiful model, but does the point... made in scaled size. Actual measures: 6feet 2inch wide, 13 feet long, and height collapsed from ground 4,5feet 5inch, popped up :6feet 5inch max inside height, 7feet total from ground.
Used some ideas from the Kampmaster, and a article about a similar function in a old Popular Magazine.

Please give comments about it?

It looks like it might be a difficult build, but the results might be spectacular.

I´m not shure about the difficulty......biggest trouble is getting sides strong enough. Gonna make som sketches on interior, and some cabinets, walls or similar to strengthen the sides on the lower part.
On the top raising "hatch" , im not shure......
Belive perhaps to make hole top in fiberglass panels, and with a "small" edge on the bottom sides to help kept in shape?
At least this style would give me all i want of a small camper!
Minor airpressure in speed, not taking all the space in rear mirrors, cool style fits my custom car, sleep for two, standing inside.

What a sharp design! I'm sure with your fabricating/build skills [just
look at your car] you'll be able to pull it off without much difficulty.

Here's a pic of the Folding TT aratman posted, in the open position. The
badge on it identifies it as an "Odyessy" brand. [You can't see that in
this pic though.]



Here's a link to a foam and fiberglass lightweight motorcycle telescoping
TTT build - great stuff there. I'm sure you could adapt some of their ideas
and methods for your build.

a full height TTT and done in steel. Great inspiration though!

I believe both those builds are Swedish. There must be a Scandinavian
knack for design you all share - maybe the midnight sun has something
to do with it? Ha!

Thanks for the links..the "dreamcamper" did i know from before, great build, but some parts are well, "overextreme", in my opinion. The foamie bike camper had some ideas, but i rolled on highways many times also with bigger trucks, trailering, etc. and know that some "faulty winds", can give some unwanted experiences, so a super lightweighted foamie, it want be. Want forget hard sidewinds on a 2000lbs 210m2 squarefeet trailer over bridges.........not so fun to see in the mirror the trailer gets"airborne". I think i let reducing frontalarea do mostly of the "trailering troubles", and use the wheels to what their intended to do...stick on the ground. Perhaps we got a weirdness of te nightsun,icebears,reindeers, harse winters & stuff....who knows (living in not big suburban places, does give to much thinking,and sparetime, to do something in garages when pubs are miles away...

(thanks for the condolenses. Just wonders how long time this guy is living, cant be so long......the bomb was well, "ok" enough, but the killing spree on the youngs, that want be forgotten...whatever the mediablast says...)

Chassie is standing ready, "just" some lenghts size to adjust. Checked out some fiberglas panels on a local big rig trailer factory here, and seems to be the way to go. Then it will shure be watertight, and could be made strong where needed without too much weight. Main thing would be the solution on the strenght on where the hatch is hinged... If found not good enough, then its just doing it different......

Did some 3D work, and made a "scene". Tear roof fitted, and the design would fit nicely.... just wonders,what the weight of the roof gonna be.

Here's a link to a Canadian company in Quebec that has an interesting
TD style TTT that has a roof that raises up. It seems to be made with
lightweight honeycomb composite panels. Maybe it could give you ideas
for your roof.
