Starleen2's build number 6?

Did you just design your very own teardrop or tiny trailer? Want to discuss it? Here's the place to post your design for discussion!

Looks like another change in the "plans". I found a place near us that sells all the parts necessary to build the trailer frame (steel not included)
http://www.utilitytrailerkit.com/
I can pick up the kit at the factory - save the shipping - and weld up the frame myself resulting in the same trailer at least 1/3 the cost of having it custom built. 8)

Scott,

It's been a couple of weeks since your last post. Are you finished with #6 yet?

Take care,
Tom

Just building the suspence  I found a good donor trailer that is still less $$$ than if I built one. It should be here later this afternoon :worship:

Well here is the donor trailer. It’s a twin jet ski trailer that I picked up from a friend who had one too many boat trailers. It will work perfectly for the new camper and I will not have to drop the floor to get the interior cabin height of 5’3”. The only problem is the width of the open area is 7 feet wide - making the cabin an extra six inches wider. I can live with that! :) I'm scaling things down a bit - maybe 12 feet is a bit too long for this trailer (it will fit but I don't want anything overhanging the end) and I REALLY want a tongue box this time!

Once the trailer is registered in my name and painted - let the fun begin!

That is a great frame! Not too over built! Is it curved at all? I can't tell from the pics. If so do you have a plan for that? You could always do a curved floor :D

Thomas – Yes the frame is curved at the front – so that got me to thinking (and nothing is set until the wood gets cut, right?) why not do a curve and a dip on the front

This is a rough model – but you get the idea. We’re still in the designing stage at this point

That's kinda cool Scott. You could take both the sidewall and roof tapers forward even farther for an integrated tongue box, like Gary did on his 2nd WW....

Yeah, I say take those curves out for a spin and see what they can do!

I like the idea of a curved front.

Picked up a few parts to finish the trailer frame - lights, wiring, paint, etc. The frame is now finished and painted black. Still gotta take off the wheels and inspect/ repack the bearings - if I do this now - I'll know the bearings are good to go. When I start making sawdust - the build thread will begin. BTW - IT now has a Name and a Color(to be disclosed later!)

Let the countdown begin -
1. Gathering up all the needed parts and lumber
2. Got the approval from the the #1 boss and her assistant for color and design
3. trailer frame now registered to me

stay tuned - I tweaked the design just a bit more - the build thread is next :D
