Any STAR TREK fans on the board?

Did you just design your very own teardrop or tiny trailer? Want to discuss it? Here's the place to post your design for discussion!

There's been one of the originals on the Portland craigslist for $2,500.

MK, do you have a concept drawing for the back (hatch) end of that design?

Or an idea on dimensions?

I'm thinking it'd make a really nice 6x10... gives you a queen bed with the foot of the bed even with the doors, and a nice little forward locker (assuming you're tapering the nose forward a bit, say from the 6' width to a 4' frontal width over about a 12'' depth...

Lets you set up some, ah, conveniences, inside. Take a look at Mike Schneider's variant on the Weekend Warrior for the inside layout, and give some thought to it...

Put the doors underneath part of that outback overhead overhang, so they blend into the midpart of the pod just about centered on the axle, and make your rear hatch one straight piece like a Weekender, coming halfway down and letting your lower hatch surface be a Dutch door, and you can run them straight down and not worry about hitting the wheel/wheelwell.

If you flatten the top of the back third of the cargo pods, you'll have side tables built right in, and if you use PVC for the part of the pods over the doors, you'll have instant fenders. You could cap the backs and have storage forward of the doors, or just a handy shoe shelf.

I might want to leave a 3'' or 4'' overhang from the roof at the back gate to help keep water off the hatch hinge, and I'd probably want swing-down, jointed aluminum poles (was it Bledsoe 3 who did that on his hatch rebuild a while back, with the clevis pin connectors?) to latch the open hatch to fittings in the ends of the pods (and yeah, if the pods stick out past the doors below and above, that gives you a place to latch your opened lower hatch doors and cheats in a little more shelf space if you need to).
Mopar's what my busted knuckles bleed, working on my 318s...

star trek design

Postby bensgreentrain » Tue Sep 11, 2007 5:50 pm

I'm a star trek fan and yes I do recall the b&w Flash gordon. GREAT design but you should not have let the secret out cause now any one can build one of these,in fact I think I'll just head over to the local hobby shop and get a plastic kit for detail reference.Benny

stepping back in time to reply to this one, but I'm new to site, and in the last week or so, started contemplating doing NX-01 shuttlepod camper....

just wondering if this one ever got out of the planning stage, if there are any photos or a finished camper to look at....

Thanks, Les

They say your supposed to learn something new everyday.... doing this build might put me a couple years ahead of schedule.

It's funny that you should bring this thread up at this time. I was just sitting down at the 'puter thinking about fooling around with a Sketchup design to build the very same..... not that I was actually thinking about building it though. Just an exercise to see if it could be done! I had forgotten all about this thread.

I'm new here and while cruising around I came across this. And I know this is an older thread but I just have to know......is there any progress on this beyond design stage? Is it actually being built? By anyone?
I love this design, it is so cool ( yeah, I'm a Trekkie nerd too!! ). This almost makes me want to try a Romulan "Scorpion" class fighter for my first build!!!!! No wait....a tear based on a Tri-corder, or maybe the shape of a Klingon disrupter, Oh man, here I go sketching again just when I thought I had my design down. :x LOL
Cheers all!!!

pontoon for boating and I like the delta flier idea. with replicators you wouldn't even need to cook.

I do enjoy star trek for sure. If I were to do a trailer like that I would have to go with the runabout style of shuttle craft. The Rio Grande or likewise.

I think the original concept for the runabout would be more teardrop friendly than what ultimately made it to the screen.

That said, I'm thinking the Delta Flyer, myself.

New class of tiny travel trailer, the Trek-Drop.

I really like the delta flyer for aerodynamics, but I have to think "Internal volume." Other wise you are going to be sleeping in a coffin or a bicycle trailer. (which the bicycle trailer idea.... hmmm... or motorcycle.

Rio Grande / Danube class.
Is nice but I'm not sure how water stable it might be.

I think that would fit nicely on a HF trailer...

The Next Gen and the Galileo have probably the most TD adaptable shapes. Although, they might look more like a TD if you turned them around, with the slants in back.
