I started watching the original Star Trek in the 60's. It played on NBC at 10 pm on Thursday. I was allowed to stay up and watch it. After the first season it dropped down to 8 pm. (These memories show you how much it meant to me). It was on for 3 seasons around the same time as another great 3 season scifi show called "Time Tunnel". I have all three seasons of the original star trek. All of Generations, All of Voyage, All of Deep Space Nine, and all of Enterprise. Totaled they comprise about 40 years of Star Trek. Not to mention the movies.

Then there's the stargate series and spinoffs. All of them great also.

BTW.. nice shuttle.

And then Abrams had to come along and turn it into Trek Wars 90210.

Blasphemy, you say? Hardly. Not a fan of the 2009 Kirk *at* all after he grows out of the Macauley Culkin stage, nor the "new improved" Spock.

Leonard McCoy, as played by DeForest Kelley, wants a lot of beating. In fact, enough I don't think there's a ship's physician out there to match him. The 2009 version,
though, is the *only* decent portrayal of a Trek character, aside from Captain Christopher Pike, in that whole hot mess of a reboot. Kudos to Karl Urban (whom I'd seen in "RED" BEFORE
I saw "STAR TREK 2009", so to me he's the kid Bruce Willis beats the living pigsnot out of in the Pentagon) and Bruce Greenwood, who does an *awesome* Captain Pike.

As a long term 'trekkie' I embrace the new star trek movies. I love scifi so I figure that it's a new number of years of scifi that isn't exactly star trek but something well made and a lot of fun with a trekkie flavor is better than nothing which is what we would have ended up with. I like the characters in the reboot. I feel that the doctor was never a good actor. Not as bad as chekov but not very good. One thing I find very disturbing about the reboot is the use of a brewery for the engine room. I don't think the engine room of an advanced futuristic starship will just have a bunch of big pipes going everywhere. They did it to save money, but a warp core like on any of the TV series would have been fine and not broken the bank.

Anyway, my teardrop may look like a canned ham and not a shuttle but my laptop in it is loaded with trek video!

Glad I wasn't the only one who didn't like the latest Trek incarnation.

Out of curiosity, have you seen New Voyages/Phase II?

While the acting isn't always that great, the writing is phenomenal (many episodes done by experienced Trek writers) and a ton of Trek alumni have been involved with it.

Yes, followed them for years. Slow in each episode coming and Kirk is a little over the top but good cgi and decent stories especially the latter ones. Some of the first ones were take-offs of the an original but they incorporated stuff from a few episodes mashed together. They got better later on.

Definitely. A number of special effects wizards from the TNG era shows came on board to help out with the cgi right around the time they did the episode with Walter Koenig.

I think they really hit their stride with World Enough and Time.

Blood and Fire was originally written for TNG but they thought it too controversial at the time, figuring it hit a little too close to home with HIV.

Cawley has gotten better as Kirk. And Kelley seems to be growing into McCoy's skin. Not as well as the original Kelley who did it, but respectable.

The biggest problem they have is that, since they aren't paid or under contract to do them, the actors keep changing and they never develop the chemistry that Shatner, Kelley and Nimoy had.

I don't see Pine and Quinto as having any kind of chemistry at all. And, while I didn't dislike Urban's portrayal of McCoy, he's been shoved so far down the ladder in terms of importance that he's almost useless.
