Hey Guys,
My plans are to build a Weekender from Mike Schneider's plans....I really don't want to insulate the walls for this will be used for summer camping only....What wall Thickness do you think I could use and stay within the weight limit?
Thanks, Cmdr :D

1/2" is a good choice!

I've used 1/2" on both the escape hatch and the generic ET, and it's a good balance of weight and thickness.

Mike I was wondering if you have the design for the curved weekender somewhere, and if there is a way for me to build it as a 10 footer. Also found this site on 4x10 cabinet grade I thought I might share: www.industrialplywood.com

I've got the bug bad.

I love this design. It looks so much like the adventure trailers tear design, but I will build it myself and save a bundle of cash. Thanks so much. Work begins Tuesday. I get all of my tubing and axle.

Thanks again

Hi everyone!

I've been lurking here for some time. This design really has me interested, though. It doesn't seem to need any equipment my dad (former part time carpenter) doesn't already have in our basement.

I would be hauling with a Bug. What weight should I shoot for? No, I don't have a hitch yet...

Also, the build page estimates $1700 for this. Any thoughts on how to shave that down? Willing to beg borrow but not steal. :D

Is there a definitive, final set of plans for the Weekender? The file mikes-weekender-final-2.PDF is a great set of plans, but it shows 30deg for the front slope, while the file final_weekender_design1.GIF shows 25deg for the same slope to accommodate an a/c unit. Any recommendation for which to build?

Is the door area the best place to put the plywood joint (per the PDF)? I will probably use a biscuit joiner (and 1/2 or 3/4" plywood, with a Suburban for a towing vehicle I'm not super concerned with minimizing weight) for connecting the two pieces, wouldn't it be stronger if it were towards the galley, on a solid portion? Or do the water-proofing concerns outweigh the potential strength gain?

Thanks!

I built the weekender a couple years ago. I linked to the forum and the plans from the build pages on my site. The plans no longer seem to be available. May I have permission to post them on my site, with proper attribution, of course?

The plans are still available, but I just checked and the server is down. I just turned in a trouble ticket. It should be back up soon!
