Dutch Oven Workshop at Minden

There will also be a Dutch oven workshop at Minden. Jack Jacobson and I will be doing it.

A morning session of about 2 hours of DO instruction for use and care, tips and tricks of a DO. We would be cooking something simple for the participants to sample during the session. I am also making 100 copies of the basic DO cookbook Jack developed to pass out to the participants. We were not sure how many people would be in the session.

The cookbook gives a lot of the basic information about DO’s and a number of simple, easy recipes for the beginners. After the session is over, the folks want to, they have time to go buy a DO so they could cook something for the potluck. When it is time to cook for the potluck, we pair up a new DO cook with someone who has done it before.

Greetings from Colorado!

A quick off the top of my head list of "Dutch Oven Essentials" that you should have on hand when cooking:

Dutch Oven[s]
Charcoal
Charcoal chimney [starter]
Newspaper
Hot pads
Matches
Tinfoil
Lid Lifter/pliers/Vice grips/Etc.
Vegetable Oil
Wind Shield
Wooden Utensils
Metal Tags to identify ovens
Lid Rest
Trivets
Recipes
Ingredients
Patience
Sense of humor

If anyone has something that I have forgotten, please speak up!

I knew I had heard of this somewhere so I linked it to this old thread.

I was making the dog an I.D. tag in case he was lost and decided with the monster C.R.A. gathering coming up I would do the same for my treasured dutch ovens. Just a simple tag with my name and phone number. Seems most of the WalMarts have these little vending machines. For $4.00 each it seemed like a great idea to me.
