Hi Felixx,
I'm a Kiwi living in S.E. Michigan for past 40-odd years and recently obsessed with building a teardrop or tiny trailer. My hobby has been building custom cars and have 4 that can haul. I've designed two of them so that the seats fold down to make a double bed so I don't understand my obsession with teardrops but perhaps it's the idea of building something cool again. I retire in 2 years and plan to spend Summer 2017 in NZ doing a top to bottom re-acquaintance tour. I'm glad to see Kiwis doing this. Not surprising given we are such DIY s and tinkerers. Anyway good luck with the build and perhaps I can follow it here.

I looked all over for hurricane hinge in NZ. As far as I could see no one in NZ has them. Others I have been in contact with have found the same. I did not want to bring one from overseas for risk of it getting bent it transit, so I used 3 large stainless steel hinges from Bunnings and they have worked well. Check my build and my travels, I have made mention of it in our Kaihu trip.

I am in North Canterbury , and I'm always interested in getting out for a weekend away. Although my teardrop plans are a long way off being started , I am happy to throw the camper on the pickup and get some miles done.
