I woke up this morning to one of my daughters speaking.
"Did you know?.... That there is a color that is the same as our skin!? But it has a weird name. It is 'new-dee'. That's weird."

I discovered the oil filter leaking on my truck today.
Not from the seal, but blowing out from the crimp around the metal body.
Never dun seen that before.

My neighbor watched a black squirrel carry an acorn from our yard to his. It buried the the acorn very carefully in the lawn. A minute later a grey squirrel came over, dug up the acorn and ate it.

I didn't know squirrels had human traits!

The other day three does came up to check out my progress turning beetle killed pinion into firewood. Despite any noise I was making (bow saw, not chain saw), they came within about 50 feet. and stared. "Hmm, I thought, good thing they aren't bucks, given the season and their seeming lack of fear." I went back to work, and about 5 minutes later they came up behind me. Then they circled around, always about 50 feet away, and eventually wandered off. Just browsing I guess.

Came home and saw in the news that deer are coming down with covid. These gals weren't wearing masks, but they didn't look sick, and maintained social distance (evidently 50 feet for their species), so I'm not too worried.

Incidentally, the raccoons in our area (one of whom came up to our screened window a few summers ago and asked the cat to let him in so he could try her food) are great at following the mask mandates; just the wrong kind of mask!

Yesterday while walking my dog about three houses away from home,
I heard a gun shot and looked in the direction the sound came from,
& I see a Woodpecker that lived to peck another day, fly away

Speaking of gunfire...

Actor James Doohan (Star Trek's Scotty) was among the Allied D-Day invaders as a member of the Royal Canadian Artillery. The evening after the invasion, as Lt Doohan was moving between command posts, he was shot six times by friendly fire. Four hit his leg, one hit his chest and one hit his right middle finger which later had to be amputated. The bullet to his chest was stopped by a silver cigarette case his brother had given him.

Another shot of our frequent visitor. So beautiful and even more so when you catch them in flight. Here she is making haste with a small morsel of suet cake.

Wow! Yet another person whose life was saved by smoking!

To my knowledge, the only one who was in the D-Day invasion, that I knew personally, was my high school German teacher.

No, he wasn't. He was an American infantryman and learned German later while part of the occupation force. (I know what you were going to ask. Everyone does!)

Landed on Omaha beach at about 8:40 am. Fought through the whole campaign (can't remember what he said about wounds--can't imagine he escaped totally unscathed), and stayed in the army until 1954.
