Guess it's time to knock some dust off of this thread........

Landlady was on a mission to get shingles put on a leaking front porch of her 4th generation farm house, She was almost frantic since the hurricane will drive up all the prices. I was pressed into the hunt. She wanted standard 3 tab in grey. So you all know me I jump on the local Craigslist and there is one listing. 11 bundles of cobblestone grey CertainTeed brand 3 tab shingles for $150.00. Well I checked to see if there were some for sale in the area in case we ran short. Found them at $22.83 a bundle. So it appeared we were saving about $100.00. Well I went to get the goodies last night turns out there were not 11 but 16 bundles. While I was there the seller asked if I would be interested in some #30 felt underlayment or other goodies in the shed. I asked how much and she said " I just want it gone ". So I had to leave some behind but 3 rolls of felt and two rolls of ice dam material went onto the truck. Once again I had to know so I tallied up all the treasure and it came to $580.28 +/- . That is a savings of well over $400.00. While I love free , cheap is damn nice too :D

Great job, Bob Henry!

The other day I was driving home from the grocery. It was about 7:30am. I get a Facebook notice about a garage sale with tools about 1 mile from my home, about 2 miles from my then current location. I asked the Mrs if we could swing by, and she reluctantly agreed!
It was a young man selling out and heading to Colorado to work on oil fields. He had been running a mobile carpentry and handyman business from an enclosed trailer.

I bought:
A Mikita Track Saw. A Rigid oscillating sander. A Rockwell Blade Runner ( which is basically a factory made jigsaw mounted upside down in a table). A Porter Cable Jointer. A pair of Irwin 30" parallel clamps. And some misc fasteners and maybe a tool or two that I have forgotten. All of these tools were in immaculate condition!

All for a grand total of $200! :D

I had to walk away from a roofing nailer, a framing nailer or two, 2 or 3 routers, and a bunch of other nice stuff that I just didn't feel I could justify spending more money on at the moment. :(
God Bless

Cliff

Went to pick up my helper last weekend and my truck has a serious alignment problem it pull hard as I pass yards sales often causing me to have to stop :D

Well I scored big at one in particuar. A Makita drywall gun for $2.00 and a Craftsman circular saw for $5.00 a bunch of assorted hand tools ( drywall saw, chalkline, and others) at 25 or 50 cents. Then we went by the free pile 4 bundles of peel and stick vinyl tile and a key wind regulator clock. They said the clock worked it just wouldn't keep time. I didn't have the heart to tell them you simply adjust the pendelum up or down to adjust the time keeping. I love yard sales !!!

That's a good haul!

We often hit Value Village, especially their used book shelves. But my best haul there was when my wife spotted a set of work boots in my size. They were priced $5 but she had a coupon, so we got them for $3.85, after I tried them on and saw that they were well maintained Nick's Boots! Yeah, $500 boots for $3.85 so I didn't feel bad about taking them to the cobbler and having him replace any hooks and eyelets that looked like they needed it. That was $30, and I have a set of well broken in, just resoled, top quality work boots.

Lots of hard sales and moving sales around here. I've gotten some great deals on tools.
If it's a well used tool and still in good shape, I'm pretty sure it's a good one. New ones are a gamble.
Sometimes the freebie pile holds just the piece of hardware or the fitting you needed. :D

Well found by the side of the road ought to count too !! Was out in the country and about to cross a recently repaired railroad crossing. I was curious about 7 blue barrels each about the size of a small keg. Turns out they were each full of these......

I wasn't greedy I got about 10 of the 700 or so that were left they were all brand spanking new.

I just wanted enough to make my coat rack for the depot.

Psst!Just for the record.....FELONY. Railroads are protected by the federal government, and even to walk on the right-of-way can have unpleasant results, if somebody wanted to push it.

Well they filled an 8 x20 short sided roll off with windows. I couldn't contain myself about 26 ~ 29 inch by 3 foot sashes making 14 - 15 3x5'6" double hung windows. I have no idea what to do with that many but I couldn't leave them to go to the landfill. It really is a disease ! :D

Factory closing maybe?
