Dreaming, building, finished, where ?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby AmyH » Fri Aug 12, 2005 10:25 am

Still dreaming, with only a slight bit of building started. I have a lot of parts ready to put together, I have just had too many home remodeling projects that I have to complete before being able to focus exclusively on the build. At least the extensive dreaming has helped me solidify my design plans.

I've got an axle and some springs and such, gotta see what all parts I actually have laying around. Need to pick up some steel, hopefully next week, get a frame built and get busy. I need to be done by the 8th of Oct. Right now it is just so damned hot and muggy around here going out of the house is just no fun at all. Kinda burns the ambition right out of you.

I'm still in the "planning" stages............
Seriously, I've stalled; I'm presently looking for a new(er) "tow" vehicle, I have most of my 'parts" electrical panel (AC and DC), wire, galley/cabin lights, hurricane hinge/door handles(from Grant).
I also picked up a set of torsion 1/2 axles a while back........but their 22 1/2 degree down angle.....good if I'm towing it with Bigfoot. I'm still looking for an axle place locally.......and a frame builder.

I'm also considering using the laminated strip design, since I'm planning on going larger than the "standard"............
Anyone have any tips on laminating thin strips? I have a table saw, jointer/joiner, jigsaw(all accessories for my Shopsmith) and athickness planer. And the various hand tools, jigsaw, belt sander, router etc...

Another delay is I presently have stuff here and at my parents place, and need to clean up a space here to get everything togehter......

Bill,

Are we talking a trailer, or a complete teardrop? Just the trailer, right?

Wow, talk about instant gratification... Are you going to build one too, so that you can show it off? Or are you just the, get away from civilization kind of guy?

Get after 'em Alan !!

Stuck somewhere between dreaming and scheming and screaming... I have a Tractor Supply 4x8 trailer, the subfloor built but not attached yet. I've compiled a nice little stack of goodies to go in or on the Salty Tear - hardware, lights, welcome mats, accent pieces, etc. - just no Salty Tear to attach them to... Yet... I've got some 14" wheels and am looking for chrome trim rings and moons to go with them. Once boating season lets up and I have a litle free time I hope to get serious with the build. It seems as if something comes up every weekend that postpones any plans for building.
Reality? What a concept!
