Found a 1977 Honda E300 generator

Postby Airspeed » Thu Jul 12, 2007 7:28 pm

I was talking to a guy about my camper today and he mentioned he has a
1977 Honda E300 generator he wants to sell,it is a very small,about 12 inches square, 4 stroke
110/12 volt generator in cherry condition,he started it (one pull) and it was so quite I thought it wasnt running.
Anyway, He wants only $125 for it ! I didnt have the cash on me and he was on his way out so I told him I would be back in the morning.
Maybe this is a dumb question but is this a good deal, excellent deal or what? Thanks for your opinions. Aaron

Here it is $180.

And new ones cost something like $800... so I would probably buy it.

Thats the one! I guess I just bought a generator! I will have to park it next to my EM3500. Thanks. Aaron

Looks great as long as it puts out the wattage intended. Can you check the output.

BTW-- your hatch struts, I noticed you have a different top bracket than I have seen. Could you tell me what you used and where you got it?? Pleaseeeeeee. Thanks.

I couldn't find any strong enough (or cheap enough) so I made my own out of some 1X1" angle and some grade 8 nuts and bolts.I cut the head of the bolt and turned a groove in it using my drill press as a lathe,
I welded the nuts on the angle with my MIG and just screwed the turned
headless bolt into the nut. They worked out perfect and only cost about $3
for all four. These pics were taken before I cleaned and painted them. Thanks! Aaron

That's nice, I had the same problem on my first tear. McMaster Carr carries the stainless steel ones so that's what I used. Made the attaching points steel like yours except my hatch frame is steel so I welded them to the hatch.

I have one just like it. Bought it about 10 years ago for $50 in barely running condition. Fixed the problem and have been using it a couple times a year since for things running an electric drill in remote locations and charging batteries. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's heavy.
