For what its worth, GM seems to prefer a crimp connection for repairs and Mopar seems to prefer a soldered connection. Both want them shrink wrapped. An other good alternative is liquid electrical tape.

No problem here with what is said here about connection on electrical wiring. It is good to have a ideas experences and share it. In all this I have learned things that I have not been exposed to during my life. It is great to learn something each time we share things. That way someone can make there own decision of how they are going to approch there build.

Paul C as for me I'm :gas: :gas:

Three way connectors and American Boat and Yacht Council

Postby kayakrguy » Sun Nov 12, 2006 10:17 pm

Hi folks,

I have been using 'Boatowner's Illustrated Handbook of Wiring' by Charlie Wing (McGraw-Hill 1993) as a general guide to my wiring thoughts.

On page 192 of same, he lists the Amerian Boat and Yacht Council's approved and disapproved! connectors. The 3 way crimp is one of the approved connectors--see below--I wish the picture was a bit better but it is readable...

So, readers can make up their own minds whether to use the 3 way connector but can do so knowing ABYC approves them for use on YACHTS! 8)

Jim, there is no problem using the 3-way connection. The concern lies with the fact that it is not insulated. If for example, you used 2 of these for a circuit, one positive and the other negative, they could easily come into contact with each other and cause a short.

Granted with the wooden bodies that most of our tears have, it is more difficult to short to ground (though not impossible). If you do use these connections, just make shure all the exposed metal is protected. I think someone mentioned that liquid that you can dip tool handles into.

Ohmigosh....4 pages? That's all? We've barely skimmed the surface of 3 way connectors...so much to cover, so little time! To stop now would be a lost opportunity! But in the interest of comity (comedy?) and to ease the discomfort of those who find the topic less than scintillating or electrifying, I offer terms of truce to head off any truculence! :surrender:

I, for one take a lifetime pledge to NEVER, NEVER mention 3 way connectors in the electrical forum :EXP :peace: ;)
