"Jumpstart Pack" for a power source?

Postby mufb » Thu Nov 16, 2006 12:59 pm

Hi folks, I've finished sealing my walls and prior to gluing the inside walls on I'm starting to think about the electricals. I noted on a previous thread that a member had used a "Jump Start battery pack". Has the advantage of having the converter and charger all in one. The one I'm looking at has a DC outlet. It has a 700 amp peak power rating and booster power of 300amp. (Whatever those are). If using one, would your run a line to a fuse box from the DC outlet, or a line from the actual end of the battery cables? Thanks.

Hi ,

I use a jumpstart pack.

It's also a 300 with 700 peak.

I just plug in a GFI cord to the powerpak and plug my power strip in the galley into the GFI cord.

I don't run anything with a heavy load for a long period of time, but I can get a weekend running a radio, camp lights and small fan without problem.

The Jump Packs are not a deep cycle and would not survive alot of discharge/charge cycles. the 300/700 is starting amps. Just an example, this one has a 17 amp hour battery in it.

I use a Black N Decker powerpack that has AC and DC. It is already fused. I use a power strip with it that has a breaker on it. All of my DC stuff have fuses. That is sufficient.

I have another small Black N Decker powerpack that was only $34 that is dedicated to my exhaust and cell phone recharge.

Granted, you can't run AC for a long time, but it meets my needs (lights, radio, cell phone). Afterall, I'm getting away and escaping out to the great outdoors.

I stand corrected. It looks like most have a 7ah - 7.5ah sealed lead acid battery in them. They take discharge/charge pretty well. At $34 it sounds like a pretty good deal. A 7.5ah battery cost about $25 and a small charger costs about the same.

Not sure of the spelling seems to have a good unit for $110.00. Has an invertor and is rechargeable. ;)

Here's what I used - a cheap jumpstart battery from Sears. It has a 12 volt outlet on the left side. I used a cigarette lighter type plug in it which is wired to the tear through a fuse block. The two unused fuse holdes contain spare fuses. It has worked fine for powering two reading lights and a 5" TV/radio for a couple hours with no noticeable voltage drop.

Here is the $34 BnD Electromate that I used that is dedicated to the exhaust fan and cell phone. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000E1HAIK/ref=nosim/8685595-20

The other one that I used that has AC and DC on it is this one. I got both from Wal-mart (the brick and mortar), and I think I this one was only $98. It was worth the convenience of plug and go though.

It is really up to the individual as to which way you decide to go. I paid more for convenience when it came to power, but skimped in other areas.
