According to the stuff I'm reading, the ground isn't even really needed in the system, but is used to prevent "shock."

It's not used to conduct load current but to carry away accidental shorts. Sorry for using so many "no"s. After reading this again I came on a bit strong. People will be calling me George before long...

OUCH is right,
I don't think Bruce has anything to worry about, there's only one George.

Steve:
Here is one of many choices on the market for an adapter.
Here is one link to an adapter. http://tinyurl.com/h9ua9
Most of this basic adapter would cost less than 3 bucks.
Some with pigtails will cost more.
You could have a 30A adapter plug shown here from Camping world
RV supply or Walmart. If the power at the campground is ONLY 30 amp
service for some reason your 15 amp outlet at the site has bad magic
you can use this adapter to get power from another circuit at the panel.

You could have a circuit tester also to be sure you have the right polarity
at your park supplied AC outlet.

Carry an inexpensive tester that you can get at Home Depot or other electric shops.

I have used both of these tools and one time found a campground outlet
that had an incorrect ground.

sdtripper2 - I used to have one of those adapters but can't find it now. I guess I sold it with my popup. :( I ran to Walmart tonight, but they didn't have one. I've finished my wiring job, and I have no idea if it works, but I don't anticipate any problems. I'm taking an extension cord and a power strip just in case though. ;)

As for the tester, I picked one of those up when I purchased my wiring. I plan to check the campsite plugs before hooking up.

Thanks for the info.

Success! I found an adapter (30 -> 20) at Lowes tonight. I plugged it in, flipped my breaker, flipped a switch and I have light! Both outlets installed also read "correct" according to my tester.

What a rewarding feeling for my first 110v job.

Keep that tester handy. You'll probably want to rewire the house now.
