Breaker panel mounted in access door

Postby Duane King » Fri Apr 06, 2007 9:10 pm

You may recall that Steve Cox mounted his electrical panel in a door. He opens this door to get at the wiring hidden behind it.

That is such a great idea that I have spent some time copying him. My breaker panel is going to be mounted at the foot of my sleeping cabin. This is because the wiring terminates under my galley. I was worried about kicking a breaker in my sleep. So, to stop that from happening, I installed a sliding plexiglas door that covers the switches. When I need to reset one, I'll just slide the plexi door to the right and reset the breaker.

Oops, my fifth breaker is tripped! Let me crawl down to the foot of the bed and deal with it. . .

And, of course, I can always open the wooden door if the problem is more serious.

This is a fun variation of Steves design. . . Thanks Steve!
By the way, I spent way too much for this panel and MadJack has already told me I am nuts. . .When the correct switch labels have been installed, they will light up. My feet will be very impressed.

Duane...I never said you were nuts...farbeit for me to question anyones sanity(when mine is in such doubt)...I merely inquired into the state of your mental health, after hearing about the costs involved... :D  ;)

I suppose that is correct. You didn't say I was nuts. You just asked if I might be. The answer to your inquiry is "Yes, and thanks for asking". . .

But Duane ... are you having FUN?
Are you happy traveling down Teardrop time?
Do you feel your impulses are expressing your vision in a positive way?

If you can say yes to all the above... well .... Enjoy and many here will also
enjoy your creative efforts.

Very Nice Duane  (What else could I say since I was the inspiration for your panel in a door) BTW I got my marine electrical panel for $30, it was a factory refurbished one. Also I often find myself turning breakers on and off with my toes while laying in bed. Woody has installed his electrical panel overhead in his new teardrop and can reach the controls whilst laying down, very cool idea, I think.

Steve,

No shots of the wiring cabinet yet. I still have to pull a bunch of wire to that site and build a bulkhead to isolate the wiring box from the battery compartment. Once I have something worth looking at, I will post it. After looking at Mary's wiring job, I'm trying to figure out how to keep everything inside there looking pretty. Thanks for the kudos. . .
