battery gurgling

Postby Aaron Coffee » Wed Jun 06, 2007 4:21 pm

Hooked up my new promariner6 charger and the battery was making a gurgling sound. Just wondered if that is normal or not. I had it hooked up before and fully charged the battery. Then unhooked it to mount it in the battery box.
Thanks
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

Arron:

Promariner6 charger that you mention is that the ProSport 6 Charger?

What type of battery do you have and how old is it?
Lead Acid?
Gel Battery?

Does the battery hold a charge?

This gurgling sound could very well mean your over charging your battery~
Here is a couple of reads about battery gurgling sounds while charging :

If you are charging a wet cell battery and then move it. The battery will make a gurgling sound because some of the outgas will get trapped between the plats inside. If it is gurgling with the fill caps on when charging then you have a problem!

If it is a wet cell battery, check your water level. It will also make the sound if the cells are low on water and the charger is charging at full power.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

you're right it is the prosport. It's a wet cell a year or two old. I had just moved it and it is a little low on water. I use distilled water right?

Distilled water is recommended.
