A word of caution, I never knew that their was a differance in kinds of solder. I have been using winter solder and just thought it was me not knowing how to solder correctly. It has been so hot here that it took over an hour for the solder to harden up. The guy at the hardware store said that because it hardly ever gets this hot near Lake Micigan that they only special order summer solder. The other problem I had was figuring out how many ice cubes to put on my dutch oven to keep the temp where I wanted it.

HUH????......... NEVER hear of this...... Solder is a tin/lead alloy that requires some amount of heat to melt. Summer - winter, heat- cool, should have not have nothing to do with how long it take to turn from solid to molten and back to a solid.... The lowest melting point of "coolest" solder is 183 °C or 361.4 °F other alloys of solder melt at higher temperatures...

Are you absolutely sure we are talking about "solder" here? Or something misnamed or misspoken as solder?

Here in Colorado we have to use high altitude solder. Although in the summer you can use low altitude winter solder.

There is rosin core solder (for electrical work) and then a couple of other types (made for soldering water pipes together) - You definitely want the correct electrical solder and not something meant for plumbing work - The two aren't suitable substitutes for each other
