Changing from Household Current to 12 Volt

Postby Classic Finn » Thu Aug 02, 2007 5:21 am

We are wondering as to how to go about changing from household current
to 12 Volt..?

The reason being we found some very nice Swedish Made lighting that would go in our tear just as nicely and fits the decor of the Mahogany.

Here are pics of the lamps..

Did you wire for AC and DC or just AC.
If you wired for both a good deep cycle battery and a
maintainer ( charger ) is all thats missing. If you are talking about using your AC wiring and converting to DC ONLY then leave your black as positive and your white as negative and the green is no longer needed. Switch on the black wires. I am very glad that I wired AC and DC. It is not difficult. I just invisioned trying to find something in the TD on the road and cussing the dark because I had only AC lighting
Growing older but not up !

Hi there

At present the tear is just hooked up for 12 volt.. Since it costs a lot here to hire a licensed eletrician to do the 220- 230 volt. By law it must be done by Licensed electricians so we,ll have it done at a later date.

The 12 volt can be done by the invidual.

Best regards

If those cool looking light fixtures are 230v now... Maybe you could rewire them with some 12v bulb fixtures or even some LED lights? Just a thought.

Heikki,

I'm with Brick, remove and toss the guts and install 12 volt sockets and bulbs.
Very easy and inexpensive.
