Please share the Name/Model Number/Price/Specs.
I live in Texas Too so I will need A/C . Plus I might make mine Black which will require lots of A/C.
Thanks,

Ah, form over function....... (I may be sweating, but I'm looking GOOD..!!)

Gotta wonder, but I've had 4 white mini-vans after the first one (which was brown)... too much enigneer in me to worry about looks.

I saw that same air conditioner at Lowe's. It's the Goldstar GL5004. Here's the Lowe's link. It's $78 and I can't find anyone else who sells them, so they might be discontinued.

Sorry for the slow reply, I usually check the board a few times a day. I was out of town taking money from the casinos in Nevada (this time).

Brian is correct, it is the Goldstar GL-5004. I bought mine at the Round Rock Lowes. They don't have them on display but they have a pallet of them stored up top. I had to get some guys to bring me one down. I have been watching it since the inception of my teardrop project. When the floor sample dissapeared, I thought I should act fast.

Hey asianflava, could you post the dimensions and how many amps it sucks down? I'd be amazed if a battery would survive an hour with it on.

By the way, your trailer is looking great. I may take up your offer to check it out this weekend if you're not busy doing other things.

Edit: Wait, probably not. I have a major website project that needs to be done by the end of the month and will be working all weekend. Blah.

I posted this in another thread but I added the power requirements to this one.

Good News! I found my Air conditioner at Home Depot tonight. It is branded as a Hampton Bay. It is the same exact thing for the same exact price. The chassis is the same, even has the same bumps and screws. The only difference is (other than the brand) is the face plate, the air filter is removed by dropping the front panel down. This may work better since my filter has to slide out vertically.

I went outside and measured it:
17 3/8 W
11 1/4 H
13 1/4 D

The backside (metal shell) is 7 1/2 deep from the edge of the plastic face plate. I did have to remove some metal angles on the bottom because it was perventing it from sitting flat. I think they are supposed to hook to the window frame.

I checked the placard on the side it says, 520W 4.8A at 115V. But isn't power current times voltage? Wouldn't that be more like 552W?

asianflava,
I have the same exact air-conditioner I bought at Home Depot this past Fall.
We're planning on lugging ours along as needed and pipe it in through the air vent on top of our trailer.

I posted this elsewhere, but will put it here under a/c as well. When an a/c unit is mounted under the roof, what is done with the condensation that drips off the back of the unit? ie, is there a drain that has to be put in to divert it to the outside?

Bev, I like your idea and might have to copy it. We don't usually need any air conditioning here in the Northwest, but I plan to take the tear to parts of the country where I might need it. Your solution is perfect since you only lug it along when you actually need it. I'll probably just put it in the back of the truck for those occasions.

Amy :)

Arne,

I'm not shure what folks are doing about the drain, but I've never seen an air conditioner of any type that did not make some condensation and it had to be drained somewhere.

Amy,
Check out Darryl's (engled) setup. I too don't see a full time need for AC, especially here on the North Coast. I'm going to go with a ssetup like Darryl has. He seems to get a bit of flack from others because of how he went about it. My guess is...those members don't live in a mild climate.

I'm going to make a duct that vents the hot air upwards. There will be two ducts next to it to draw in cool air for the sides of the unit. The duct will be curved to allow the condensation to collect at one point. At this spot, I will install 1/4in PVC that will drain straight to the bottom of the trailer. The duct will be fiberglassed to make it water resistant.

Hi Amy,
Yes, Darryl's site is where I first came up with the idea.

We have a "hole" where the vent is:

Figured we might as well use that. We don't have room to put it in the galley and think this would be the easiest way to pipe it in.
