Batterie information

Postby Specktre » Wed May 25, 2016 10:58 pm

Good day,
I am about to buy a battery for my tear. I was wondering if I should buy two cheap marine or one big marine.

Is somebody try that in the past?

Thank you

If you can easily source it I'd buy one big true deep cycle. Just my 2 cents worth. :D

See about the load vs. charge cycle you will need. Figure out the amp hours (or watts) you have to use in a day, see what size battery will work, see about the charging available & then buy what you need. There's no reason to haul around a bunch of lead & acid if you don't have to.

I use to be in tent so I dont need much.

Led lighting, computer fan and charger for phone.

I'll check the price at Costco and probably look for solar panel later if needed.
Thanks

About all I have to offer is try to avoid a lead-acid (flooded cell) and look at AGM style batteries... Much cleaner and easy to deal with....

Whether marine or not its all about amp hour ratings and ability to recover from deep discharge.... Charging a bettery on road has about 50 different ways....You have to decide what charge system will work best for you battery usage...

Might what to look at "Battery FAQ" (check stickies) before jumping in....

If it's just for LED lighting, a computer fan & the phone charger, a 35 amp hour (AGM, a good one) wheel chair battery can be had for between $40 & $80, depending on the brand & quality. These are great batteries, durable, tough & charge up rapidly. Amazon sells one for $65 delivered. It weighs about 23# & is only 8" X 8" X 6", so it's very small & easy to tuck into a small space.

If taken down to about 15AH over night (more than what you have described in energy use), it would charge back up with a 40 watt solar panel in about 6 hours and be ready to go again the next day. You could even add a car type CD player, which only draws about 2-3 amps when running at reasonable sound levels, and have tunes with that size battery, if it didn't run for too many hours at night.

I say why not?
