Right turn signal does not work when lights are on

Postby Shadow Catcher » Thu Jul 28, 2016 9:09 am

I am bumping up against my aspergers in figuring out a problem. I am mind blind to math and other things that use those mental pathways and this appears to be one of them :NC
The last time we took the trailer out I noted that three of the bottom LED's on the left tail light were not working and found two inches of water inside fixture. Ordered a pair of new "sealed" LED tail lights which arrivd the day we left for Hocking Hills State Park, took them with us in case we were stopped. In the process of the light check we discovered the right signal does not work when the lights are on. This could have been happening since forever as I don't think we ever checked both together.
Replaced the tail lights and the right turn signal still does not work with the lights on.
Wiring is not color coded, it is all red white and black, this from Eye4Design which is not making things easy. seven prong outlet on the TV tests correctly.

"Red, White, & Black" is a colorcode !

At least thats typical to sealed LED taillamp assemblies...
White-negative.
Red-positive (brakes/blinker. )
Black-positive (taillight. )

Right is Yellow left is Green from the plug, and yes I know the lights are wired red black and white. Still does not answer why the turn signal will not work with lights on.

Bob, nothing is grounded to the frame, all are 16 ga wires to the lights etc.
I am going to take the 7 prong plug apart and clean contacts and follow the wires back.

Humor me and make a ground jumper from the tow vehicle to the ground wire on the offending light. Just insert a straight pin thru the wire if need be, but just try it , it will take 4 minutes.

Clean all nooks and cavities and blades and receptacles in plug and at lamp(LED) connections and re-crimp all barrel/butt splices using dielectric grease on (in) all surface and connectors to keep moisture and oxygen out of all connections and prevent corrosion....

IF problem persists you might have bad LED fixture...

Dale most of the splices I have added use the heat shrink internal glue connectors. These are and outgrowth of the space shuttle technology of 40 plus years ago. I am going to start at the plug and work my way to the lights. I have used diaelectric grease in the areas I have worked on.

Di-electric grease at the plug connection & you're good!

Not necessarily. found that the two wires on the right tail light were reversed. correcting that cured the problem.
I did find corrosion in the seven prong plug, that is not cleaned out and once I get every thing buttoned up I will apply grease and get things sealed up better. It does however indicate this probably needs to be a semiannual inspection need.
