If you buy a optima battery you will never have to worry about venting. They are totally sealed and I run them sideways in some cars I have built. Look at jpegs or summit and you can get a aluminum battery box built for drag racing they come with a mounting lip you can screw or rivet. They are also sealed in case of crash or battery explosion.

Optimas are AGM batteries and they can vent as well. From the Optima website:

When used with a properly regulated constant voltage charging system (such as an alternator), the OPTIMA will not emit hydrogen gas. However, gassing can occur when charging at excessive voltage levels or in extreme high-temperature conditions. In automotive applications, this typically will not happen if the alternator/regulator stays below 15 volts.


Bottom line is that *all* battery manufacturers recommend venting the battery box. It doesn't take much, I used a couple of soffit vents from Home Depot, one up high and one down low.
