What do I have missing?

Postby DaBearSox » Thu Apr 06, 2017 7:31 pm

So I have my wiring all worked out. I was testing my 30amp inlet today to make sure it is working and my AC outlets were wired correctly. So I plugged in and my AC outlets work great. I wanted to make sure the converter was working as well so I disconnected the battery and no DC items ran. I am assuming it's a broken circuit. I have the dc ground bus usually connectted to the negative battery post when the battery is connected. So what am I missing here? If I take the ground bus to the chassis should it work with just the converter on?

Converter only powers things when 110v is plugged in to shore power (PD4045?). You need power from the battery to the supply side of the panel, which feeds the fused 12v circuits.

A am no expert on them
but if it has a smart charging. It will look for a battery to charge.
Seeing no battery is will not sent out any current.
Put the battery back in and check the voltage. Then plug in and check voltage. If the voltage goes up it is working.

The PD4045 requires the battery to provide 12 VDC when connected to 120VAC. Annoying sometimes, but that's how it works.

Thanks for the reply! With a Google search there were a couple places that said the pd will work without a battery attached but guess not. I'll very minimally be using shore power but thought it may need to be an option sometime.

I previously had a WFCO 8735, and it would operate just fine without a battery, so when I was bench testing the replacement PD4045, I thought it wasn't working properly when I couldn't get 12VDC out with 120VAC in and no battery. A call to the factory answered that question for me.

I'll double check mine but I'm pretty certain it produces 12v+ even when the batteries are disconnected via a master disconnect switch.

I'm having a hot skin problem right now. But my pd4045 runs my 12v lights without a battery hooked up.
