how to mount a TT-30r receptacle?

Postby sxjames » Fri Apr 07, 2017 9:52 pm

So I'm getting close to installing the walls (3/4 inch plywood) on my 5x10 teardrop, and before I start cutting a hole for the shore power receptacle (standard Levetron TT-30r with faceplate) I'm trying to figure out how to mount the sucker. My first thought was to mount the receptacle/box to the inside of the wall, cut a 2 in hole to allow access to the face of the receptacle, and then install the waterproof cover on the outside. Unfortunately, this leaves the face buried a third of way into the wall. If I try and mount the box thru the wall and fasten it on the outside, then the waterproof cover will not fit flush against the wall...thus kinda defeating the purpose. So, what do the more knowledgeable folks here do?

(Yeah, this would be a lot clearer with pictures and diagrams, but I haven't figured out yet how to include pictures/diagrams in a post)

Thanks,
Stephen

on the new to me store boughten RV there is a flap covered hole where the power cable comes out of it's little interior wooden box

the flap can close over the plug end and effectively seal the storage area as well as having a slot in it for colsing over the cable when in use

goto your local RV dealer and have a gander

here is a link to some pics of options and their solutions

the box in my trailer holds a 20' power cable when under way...

Is this what you have?

While that receptacle fits a standard RV electrical cord, it is not a normally used part. This part is usually installed in a surface mount weatherproof gang box with a weatherproof cover but I'm not sure if you'll be able to flush mount that receptacle.

Actually if this is used for power inlet on TD... ITS the wrong unit.... You need "receptical" with male prongs on TD and a cord with female end on cord for TD..... This receptical is for SHORE power side NOT TD side of cord..

Using power cord with electrically energized ends exposed make ends exposed a hazard to human and may cause electrical shock and or death...

This is power inlet you want on side of TD so standard RV power cord works and you do not have to modify it and expose one to electrical hazard....

Dale, aggie79 --
Thanks for the replies. Yes, I realized after thinking about it for awhile that I was doing it wrong. I needed a male type receptacle like you showed. Finally went over to e-trailer and they had a nice weather proof male receptacle (5l-30) and a matching cord. I will be using that.

So, does anyone need a standard TT-30r receptacle - I have a spare one :)

the one you have left over could be mounted in/near your home parking/working/storage spot so you can power up there :)

i have one on the inside my barn/shop/toy box, on the front of my barn & on the back of my barn

you never have too many power options
