Low voltage disconnect

Have seen a couple of videos on these and one makes it sound like this is put next to the tow vehicle's battery, and another makes it sound like it should be next to the device that draws the most power to shut things off in the event that power drops to low (12 volts ?).
Does anyone have experience with these?

I have a Battery Guard by Intellitec.If the battery voltage drops to 12V and it disconnects the loads to prevent damage to the battery from too deep of a discharge. Turn on a charger and the battery is re-connected. Here's the details:
