Generator Stupidity

Postby Jen123 » Mon Jul 01, 2019 12:39 pm

So I have camped a lot and bought a generator for emergency preparedness. It is a Honda. Here is the thing. An emergency never happened. I've had this generator for atleast six years. It has never had oil or fuel in it. I'm going on a trip where the temps will be over a 100 so I would like to run a small ac.

Have I ruined the generator by not using it? Can I put oil and fuel in it or do I need to have it checked out?

Pull on the cord to see if engine is free. If it is. Service it and you should be good.

Check the manual to see if it needs to be "broken in" - needs special oil to do it and several stages of running and cool down. On my Yamaha (after FINDING break in oil) took a day to complete.
