Venting the converter / fuse box?

Postby knova » Tue Jun 23, 2020 8:25 pm

Hey all, I’m on the verge of wiring up my trailer. This necessitates putting my PD4045 somewhere, and in the course of reading through the instruction manual I noticed it said something along the lines of “unit requires adequate ventilation for proper performance” (not a direct quote).

This got me thinking, what kind of ventilation would something like this require? I hadn’t planned on putting in a vent outside of the roof fan/vent. The PD4045 is going to be installed in my cabin area, taking the place where one shelf would normally be. If this unit does require its own vent for airflow, what kind would you recommend? (I’ve thought about getting one of those circular 3” vents available on eBay)

Thanks for any insight.

If it’s open to the cabin, then you’re good. Most likely they don’t want you to fit it into a box only just bigger that it is.

Thanks. This is what I thought. It will have room to breathe, I’m not building the electronics area to be airtight. (This doesn’t include the battery which will be housed in a tongue box)

Unrelated follow up question: what do people use to add a master fuse in line with their battery? I’ve read a lot about it needing to be as close as possible to the battery itself which makes sense.

My battery and fuse panel are separated by 12" of wire. I have a 30 amp automatic reset circuit breaker between them. I think it was $5 at O'Reilly.
