Am I overthinking all this?

You might find somebody from Michigan or that upper-midwest country and ask them how often and at what setting they run their ceiling fan.

I am going lifepo4 for a battery, the 60 ah I bought is equivalent to a 110 ah lead acid battery. I figure it should give me 2 days use not including the solar I plan on getting.

I am also putting a battery monitor that measures actual power left in the battery, not done by voltage, which wont work on a lifepo4 any way.

Which one did you buy?

The one below, there is a coupon code that brings it down to around 330. I went with the specs, should allow me to run a 500 watt inverter when i need it.

Nominal Voltage: 12V
Nominal Capacity: 60AH
Discharge Cut-Off: 10V
Charge Cut-Off: 14.65V
Charge Current: 50A Max
Cont. Discharge: 50A
Peak Discharge: 80A

Demand on the good cells have gone up as the supply has gone down.. May have to wait a while for that to balance out and DIY'ing a power pack is an advantage again.

I do like these batteries: https://www.electriccarpartscompany.com/Fortune-60Ah-Aluminum-Encased-Battery
For me this BMS would do fine: https://www.electriccarpartscompany.com/12V-4S-40A-EV-Lithium-LiFePO4-BMS-Battery-Management-System

I bought a 'pre-build' many do to the sale it was on, otherwise I would have built with those parts.

I figured that's what I'll do in six or seven years when my Vmax AGM is feeling puny. By then lithium's will be dirt cheap and flux capacitors will be just a bit out of reach.

Its not that its cheap, its the 3 year warrenty and from a company that has been around and the specs do what i want/need. Its honestly probably the fortune cells anyway with a 60amp bms. Once my power meter gets here I plan on doing a few cycles to see what it can do and calibrate the power meter.

I didn't mean to infer it was junk, just inexpensive for a lithium with 60 amps.

Love to hear how that goes! I have a cheap meter inline, but it does do cumulative WHrs. When I ran my solar I had one on the Panel as well to see incoming. With the DC/DC, I don't even bother with incoming.... I know what I'm getting each hour.

I usually go for the external shunt, but lately these have worked well. Sad part is they used to be $5 each.... https://www.amazon.com/DROK-Multimeter-6-5-100V-Backlight-Measuring/dp/B017FSED9I/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2JJ4GR6M7INHF&dchild=1&keywords=dc+meter+monitor&qid=1599166838&sprefix=dc+meter%2Caps%2C258&sr=8-5

I bought this one, it can tell charge vs discharge and is programmable for battery capacity, which works well with lifepo4 as you cant use voltage as a gauge.

I just ran a 500 watt spot light for 45 mins thru a 1000 watt pure sign renogy inverter and I was still at 12.45 volts. I will continue to run it down to test the low volt cut off in the inverter and or battery.

Hope fully the meter comes soon so I can get a true test

Careful where you put that one, the backlight blinks when it's charging and you cant turn it off. It might keep you awake at night. I used it on my solar generator and other than the backlight it works well.

I bought the Daly BMS from electric car parts and it didn't work. When I called them about it they mentioned that it has a tendency to burn out from inverter startup inrush. Notice that I got to talk to them, they stand behind their products and gave my my money back. It's a popular BMS, I see links to it all over. I guess I just got unlucky.

okay load test complete. about an hour and 20 mins on a 500 watt halogen light running thru a 1000 watt renogy inverter. Assuming 10 % loss thru the inverter that would work out to just over 60 amp hours. The inverter shut down when my meter said 10.4 volts, its supposed to shut down at 10.5 so either my meter is off or the inverter is a little but close enough for me. It did not trigger the bms to shut down, so that will be another test when I get the amp hour meter.

I plan on setting the meter thinking the battery is a 55 amphour, so I have some reserve.
