Need some help with materials planning for electrical

Postby fmemon » Fri Apr 30, 2021 5:49 pm

Hi everyone,

I am in the planning stages for my trailer build and wanted to get some help with getting my electrical planned out.

For my 110V AC outlets, what kind of outlet box is everyone using? I have 1 inch aluminum studs on my trailer wall and 3/8" plywood covering that. Is there an electrical box that is shallow enough for me to get an outlet mounted flush to the walls?

For the wiring, I'm planning on using 12AWG stranded THHN covered in the blue plastic conduit. Is that sufficient to protect the wire from chafing? I don't see romex being a good option for abrasion resistance in a moving vehicle/RV type setup.

I have used a plastic box only 1 1/4" deep. The disadvantage is too small to through wire.

Personally, I would not be concerned by using romex. Probably would find bushings where it passes through metal.
