rob,

we haven't had any luck with SSS avon product either. i've given up on repellent. i have a light white long sleeve shirt and light cotton pants if we are camping at the beach or in a bad bug area. it can be hot but better than being bitten up or poisoned by repellent.

Has anyone told you about regular Listerine in a spray bottle....works fair. Smells good and you don't have to worry about any damage to clothing or air quality....and you can still spray it in your mouth.... Some folks in Arkansas told us about this...we keep it in our camper, but in Montana and Yellowstone they (mosquitoes drank it) maybe it only works in AR...??????

Do not eat preservatives.

Stick to the fresh fruits and vegetables. Eat your steak plain and so on.

I went camping one time and everyone eating with me ate all the chips and pop they could eat. They were also drinking beer and other alcohol. Later that night I was waring a tank top with no bits and everyone else was hiding in tents.

Minnesota I use Deep Woods off, one reason is for skeeters but also wood ticks. I wonder how some of these other suggestions would work against ticks.

It's no secret that mosquito bites can transfer a number of diseases to humans and animals, the most common of which are malaria, dengue fever and encephalitis. 8)

I use spray 'off'. I do not spray it on me, I spray it onto my hand and apply it on exposed skin, sparingly.

A skeeter can detect you 7 miles away . . . .you'd think there would be a closer warm body that he'd be interested in.

Seems the best mosquito repellent for me is just to have someone else around. They seem to bite others more than me but if I am the only choice they will eat me up, at those times I use deet. Yea I know, but I'd rather not waste my time and money on junk that almost works.

If there is power, an electric fan goes a long way toward keeping the mosquitoes away from you. They cannot fly in much of a wind. I have actually watched them try, they just get swept away.......

I've heard that catnip oil can work wonders. Heavily diluted, and sprayed on. I don't have any, so I haven't tried it.

I have tried several of the remedies mentioned: dryer sheet(s), mouthwash spray, fogging (never in a campground!), cintronella.

The only ones I've found to work are Skintastic, deep woods off (with lots of deet), or as Larwyn suggested, a very large fan.

I have also observed that many times it boils down to individual bodily chemistry. I get eaten up while folk next to me sit in comfort. And if mosquitoes can detect me from up to 7 miles away, I just hope I get inside before they all get there, because I must appear to be a big dessert smorgasbord to them.
