Question about Death Valley

Will be going to Death Valley in early March of next year. Does anyone have any experience with the campground at Furnace Creek? Thanks for any info you might have.

Yes. What do you want to know. There are 3 camp grounds at furnace creek. The main one is right on the flat next to the visitor center. It has full hookups available, picnic tables, and some shade from small trees/large bushes. Across the street is the giant flat gravel parking lot of a camp ground that can hold a huge number of RVs. Then just up the hill from that is Texas Spring campground that is for tents and small RVs. Texas Spring has picnic tables and a few of the sites have shade.

We spent about 4 days in the Furnace Creek campground a few years ago, and we still didn't see all there was to see. We took off every day checking out the area and had a fine time. They have great ranger talks in the evenings at the visitor center. Be sure you go to Scotty's Castle and if you have time, check out Riolite and return on the one-way road that winds through the mountain range back to Death Valley.

The first time we were there, I flew a private plane into the valley and landed in Furnace Creek. A shuttle van took us up the the Lodge for a fine lunch and we just knew we had to return and spend more time checking out all of the scenic areas nearby. Some visitors never see the interesting things that are available and just think that it is a hot, desert area to be avoided. Enjoy your trip, you won't be sorry.
