I know I couldn't resist the "K" thing

56 years old and a boy scout why did it take 55 years to find an easy way to store my coolers.

Having pulled coolers out of storage and opened the lid only to find that it looked like a chia pet inside with mold in various shades of gray and green everywhere I now rinse after use and pour in 1/2 cup of the cheapest liquid bleach I can find. "I use the 2 glug meathod" It seems that the bleach actually vaporizes because the cooler is cleaner than brand new even the lid and sides. Heading out I simply take it to the bathtub rinse with cool water and its ready to pack, no scrubing scraping and especially no cussing. It's a natural sanitizer so I am no longer concerned with the quality of the ice it's cheap peace of mind.

Been using that method for years. It is definately a great sanitizer.

You should also make sure it's completely dry and crack the lid when storing.

seal it tight with a guarter to half cup of clorine bleach in it while stored. The clorine off gasses and as long as it can not evaporate will evenly coat all surfaces. Absolutely no gray green anything. Try it both ways you'll see !

My folks use to use coffee grounds in their coolers. Always keep them fresh smelling and I never recall any molds.

I store mine dry and have not had mold problems at all. I never put anything in them that mold could really effect anyway. Never use the ice to put in drinks and always insure that everything is in sealed packaging of some kind.

This is what I've always done...

but I often use 10% bleach to kill/prevent mold around the house. Even at that low concentration, it'll kill the cooties.
