And never, never, ever put soap in your cast iron!!!

And don't let your sister put them in the dishwasher either, even if she did offer to help around the house.

One pot/pan meals, and one pan to wash with hot water heated in the dirty pan with a dab of soap and a rag, paper and plastic to eat from and off of. No sinks, no gray water to deal with. We camp so as not to have to do the "chores" we have around home!

Do the CI per standard procedures. For the plates just look around for cheap plastic plates or paper plate holders.Carry a supply of tortillas with you.Use them for paper plates or plate liners. Then you can eat your dishes or feed them to the wildlife.Use the tortilla to roll up those boiled in a bag omlettes and there are no dishes 8) .I have also used small round loaves of bread hollowed out for soup bowls(needs to be a crusty bread which goes well with soup anyway.
I also use dirt or sand for the initial cleaning just scrub it around  .Makes washing just a lot easier and uses less water.Used aluminum foil also works in place of dirt or sand.Of course you don't want to do the "Guest" china that way.

You mean: "Soapy water without proper drying and re-treating" don't you? Oh, and improper storage.

That's not unsalvagable... but sad, nonetheless.

FYI: To avoid a black mess on your pots (other than cast iron), when cooking on the campfire, coat the outside of the pot with liquid dish soap(we use Dawn). When it comes time to clean up, the black washes right off-no scrubbing.
