Are people reluctant to share, for fear if they reveal their favorite spot will become overcrowded, etc.?

... Louisiana has some great state parks...while many in the southern part of the state are closed due to hurricane damage, the rest are open.
One of our favorites it Lake Bruin State Park...it is a small park on a beautiful Mississippi River Oxbow Lake, where you can camp right on the water...it is located about halfway between Vicksburg and Natchez Ms. on the La. side of ol' man river...both are historic cities with much to see and both have riverboats if gambling is your forte'.
Lake Bistineau, near Shreveport La is a beautful sunken cypress lake
Lake Claiborne, Chemin-a-haut, Lake D'arborne and Caney Lake are all beautful with good fishing...prices vary from 12 to 18 bucks a nite and many have boat rentals, fishing piers and swimming among their ammenities

Okay, I'll chime in with our state park site: http://parks.ca.gov/. My favorite is MacKerricher north of Fort Bragg and Mendocino. Maybe that's because I've been camping in the area since I was a kid and proposed to my wife just north of there while camping right on the beach. My brother-in-law used to be a California state park ranger too so I visited a few where he worked.

If you have a "secret camping spot" that is beautiful and untouched keep it quiet. Share that spot only with a few friends that you know can respect it as you do. It you know of a well controlled campground that has that special charm or beauty email us about it and send us picture if you have them. We will post the information in the appropriate state page.

I have a few that I would like to keep quiet about, but we are looking for good teardrop spots, also.

Our next build, the Copper Top, is not going to be an a/c rig, but come March or April when temps pass 100 I think a/c will be a must. Got some good ideas for a low power usage a/c that I have to try. As soon as I build one, I'll let you know. We can do the trailer with a/c and heat but running on shore power.

I was driving to Ohio bout two years ago, we stopped someplace along I-40 and took a dirt road about 3 or 4 miles off the highway to a place we thought would be good for the night. Woke up in the a.m. maybe 200 feet from somebodys front door. Never pick your camp spot at night.

This reminds me of one of our trips back east when i was a kid. My dad had a habit of driving way into the night then pulling off the road somewhere to sleep a few hours. This one particular trip we all woke up as a train went flying by in the dark, talk about a scare.

Never pick your campsite at night indeed. YIKES!!!!

There (USED to be) was this really gorgeous 'roadside park' along an Interstate access road ... about 500 yards from the business end of the B-52 runway at Barksdale. Talk about a wakeup call ...
