Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Here's a rough outline of what I am thinking so far... Did I miss anything important?

Generic Building Plans
Pick your profile – includes laying out your modifications
Build your chassis 5x8 red trailer
Build your floor ½” fir plywood
Build your walls ¾” birch plywood
Build your interior cabinets – basic cabinets
Install spars 1x2 pine
Install ceiling 1/8” birch plywood
Stain/paint the interior
Run 12v Wiring – sound & security cable
Run trailer wiring
Insulate roof R-tech
Skin the exterior- aluminum
Trim out the aluminum
Install the fenders – round or 1940s style
Build the hatch-
Wire the hatch
Skin the hatch-aluminum
Stain/paint the hatch
Trim the hatch
Build the doors – ¾” birch plywood
Stain/paint the doors
Skin the doors
Trim the doors
Install windows – torque out windows
Hang the doors – stainless steel hinges
Install door latch
Install hatch latches
Install roof vent
Install interior lights
Install porch lights
Install taillights
Install license plate light
Install running lights
Install rain diverters
Build lower galley cabinets
Build upper galley cabinets
Install compact refrigerator
Install aluminum backsplash
Install gas struts
Install stove
Install propane
Install battery
Install tongue chest

So what does a beginner put on the tongue? A battery? A storage chest? What would you want?

I liked putting the battery on the tongue. It's easy to get to for wiring, no tricky venting..just simpler, for a first build.

A front mounted aluminum covered box with a dome lid to hold a propane bottle and a large marine stye battery. Maybe a Solar charger built into the box lid?

I like the idea of something on the front. Storage is good. At least a box. I like the exterior box idea that the Camp-Inn people have done. That was very creative of them. Extra storage in and out without the $$$ for the metal storage chest.

I may never build one of these, but they are really interesting. I think if you put a plan into public domain you will find all sorts of variations in short order. That’s a good thing.

I could see a welded frame in both 4’ and 5’ right out of the shoot as well as insulated walls. What would you think of a modular approach?

I also liked the Cub/Mod lines but this looks easier to build and probably more functional.

I have been bitten by the teardrop bug...I can see that I am going to have to build one of these things. I have been looking at the plans out there and would be interested in your generic plans when they are available. For me the bolt or welded frame would be fine. I will have to say that I am partial the the "classic" looking tears!

I think an easy variation on the Generic Benroy would be the Generic Cub/Modernistic. The only difference would be a different side profile and a larger piece of wood... 4x10 to start with. The profile could easily be matched to fit on an 8' long trailer.
