Cost for Generic build

Here is a generic building plan for a teardrop designed by the members of T&TTT.

Cost for Generic build

Hey I am looking for baseline cost with nothing fancy just trailer and lights. Then adding some goodies as time progresses. Thanks for the help.

Waldo, that's like asking how long is a piece of string ;) Some have built extra cheap ($500 approx) and some have built with a cost into the thousands. It all depends on how much you can scrounge for nothing. I would imagine that a basic box on a trailer would still cost around a $800 depending on the quality of materials chosen.
Cheers

Frugal building

Postby Alfred » Sat Sep 17, 2011 11:20 pm

Hey Waldo,

The Stumble Inn thread is a good thread to review for a build on a budget:
http://tnttt.com/viewto ... tumble+inn
His build was less than $500.00

The Fred Sanford Build is another good thread for a build on a budget:
http://tnttt.com/viewto ... ed+sanford

Obviously, the more supplies you can scrounge or find, the less expensive it will be.

For me, attending to the project on the weekends when I could, I found I used Home Depot/Lowes for many of the parts, due to convenience/availability when I needed them. This probably resulted in my paying more than I would have, if I had bought the supplies elsewhere, or I had more time to look for salvage/used materials. I also splurged on a few specialty parts, like the Fantastic Vent fan, "better-than-hurricane" hinge, the crank out windows. On the other hand, I should also note that I had a couple of areas on the build where I caught a break.

Regarding the trailer, I bought the utility trailer new but on sale, from Northern Tool. Folks that start with a used trailer, old salvaged pop-up or whatever, probably start out way ahead not buying a new trailer.

Using new parts/wood at mostly retail, scoring a bargain here and there, I think a frugal build $1500 is possible, but costs can easily run more.

So far I got to $1419 and it's not done yet and nothing fancy.
I'm pretty sure the cost for the aluminum siding is going to be around or over $400.
Here is my building log with the costs (I didn't include the price of tools that I had to buy, many people already have those tools):
