Axle location is key, as it relates to your cabin length and side door locations.
Start with the 'sit and spin' method. You want to be able to sit down into the doorway, lift your feet and knees up, lay back, spin your feet into the cabin and extend into your prone position pretty much without moving your hips. So this puts the side doors where you want them and with the door trim settled (if any) will likely determine where your fenders/wheels and tires can't be. I'm less and less agile as the years go by, so I prefer a wide doorway.
The other rule of thumb, when locating the galley and/or other heavy objects (coolers, DC fridges, A/C units, lead acid or gel cell batteries, cast iron cookware, etc.) at the rear is the 40/60 rule; place the axle 40 percent of the cabin length from the rear. 35/65 is also common.
Another thing to consider is tongue length. A lot of trailer manufacturers skimp out on tongue length, making a short trailer that is hard to maneuver when backing and is more prone to wag going down the road. Also, if your tongue jack handle or tongue box is too close to your tailgate or hatch back, that can be a hassle.
