Bolt Spare Tire Under Floor 3/4" Plywood

Postby garywi » Thu Feb 12, 2015 9:57 pm

Hey Guys, I see some with the HB trailer mount the spare 12" tire under the trailer, to the plywood floor, using carriage bolts. Anyone have an issues with this staying put, or the carriage bolts ripping through the plywood. Thanks!

Add a 16 ga. backing plate on top and it will never go anywhere under normal use.....just my 2 cents worth. :D

I mount mine under the floor. I have a 1/2" floor and added. A 5/8" spacer to increase the thickness to 1 1/8". I've had no problems. There may be a pic on my gallery.

My '83 GMC has a spare tire holder that slides out from underneath when needed and if I were to mount mine under I would search wrecking yards for something similar. My spare is mounted on my tongue.
Enjoy, Chris
