Anyone install Bulldog A-Frame Coupler on NT trailer

Postby sned » Tue Jun 05, 2018 1:31 pm

Looking for a safer hitch setup and was wondering if any has installed a Bulldog A-Frame Coupler on NT trailer? If you have any issues during the install?

I opted to incorporate an auxiliary 3/16 2x2 tube and reinforce that way.

By letting the tube run all the way to the rear the bonus was I was able to have a rear receiver also. ( This shot is the barn trailer )

Thank you for the info. I'm more interested in using a 50 degree A-Frame couple either from BullDog or lock-n-load.

There was a lot of flex in the two factory extensions that went to the coupler and I was worried about failure in the tongue members more that the coupler so I chose this option. Perhaps the material on your trailer is beefier ?

Is this the trailer you have ?

If so perhaps you might want to hook it up and jump on the tongue a few times then I think you will understand my concern.

yes, that's the trailer I have. I will have to bounce on it and see what it does.

I have that trailer and am waiting for the machine shop to make my tongue extension. Like so many others here have done, it is a 2x2 square steel tube 7 1/2 ft long. I'm inverting the top coupler mounting plate of the trailer and sliding the 2x2 thru it, bolting to 1st and 2nd crossmembers. A 2.5 square tube 8" long is being welded on the top of the coupler end for the existing coupler to mount to with new grade 8 bolts/nuts. In addition to reinforcing the tongue, it adds about 32" length to the tongue, making it easier to back the trailer.
It's 5 o'clock somewhere ... time for a
