suspension travel on a dexter axle

i am using a dexter type axle for my camper from a pop up camper and i have to cut out the wheel wells some more does anyone know how much it will go before it bottoms out

A Dexter torsion axle or Dexter spring axle?

I fabricate 4.5” in for a Dexter 22.5º down torsion axle.

hi tony all i did was move the axle towards the rear and built new perches,i didn't change the angle on it or the settings are you saying i should allow 4.5 inches for the wheel to travel,here is a picture of it before moving it back so i don't know what type this is called i am saying it is a torsion axle?

That is a torsion axle, but not one made by Dexter. I'd guess less than 5" but without measuring the original clearance, it's hard to say.

that looks like the one that 'Camp Inn' uses on their trailers. The swing arm is splined to the axle and they look to be adjustable for your 'angle' start point. Got to see a Camp Inn last summer when there was a bearing/bent axle problem with one in our group, we had to 'mark' to make sure we got it re-clocked back to it's original set point when it was re-assembled.

Gudmund is spot on. I'm fairly sure it's a Flexride axle. Give them a call.
